Meeting of the Commission on the Selection of Foreign Academic Workers

On March 2, another meeting of the Commission on the Selection of Foreign Academic Workers took place, chaired by V. V Glukhov, Senior Vice-Rector of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. The number of foreign lecturers willing to work for SPbPU is growing each year: in 2015, there were 144 foreign professors employed by the Polytechnic University, which is twice as many as the year before. The Commission selects and invites the best professors from the world's leading universities to work for SPbPU.

During the last meeting, 22 foreign professors were selected. Among them are professor A. Kovacevic (citation index – 1068, h-index – 34) from City University London, Great Britain, who will hold a course in "Flow dynamics in rotary-screw compressors" at the Institute of Energy and Transport Systems, and professor P. Zunino (citation index – 185, h-index – 10) from the University of Genoa, Italy, who will give a course of lectures in "Contemporary issues of power engineering" at the same Institute.

Professor H. Altenbach (citation index – 170, h-index – 26) from Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany, will hold a course in "Mechanics of materials, membranes, and surfaces" at the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics. Students of this Institute will also be able to attend several courses held in English by professor M. Kachanov (citation index – 4099, h-index – 34) from Tufts University, USA.

The Institute of Civil Engineering welcomes professor A. Peter (h-index – 15) from City University London, Great Britain, who will hold a course in "Project management in construction" as part of the international master's degree program in Civil Engineering, and professor M. Romero (citation index – 137, h-index – 11) from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, who will give a course of lectures in "Architecture, energy-efficient buildings and constructions".

Professor W. Friedrich from the University of Hannover, Germany, and professor R. Bestak from Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic, will give lectures at the Institute Physics, Nanotechnology and Telecommunications.

Involvement of foreign academic workers contributes to the internationalization of SPbPU and enhances its international competitiveness. Foreign experts recognize the high level of SPbPU’s academic activity, also admitting the growing reputation of the university on a global scale.
