SPbPU Took Part in Brazil EDUEXPOS Exhibition Devoted to Education

In late February 2016 Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University took part in the international exhibition Brazil EDUEXPOS that took place in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

The leading universities of the world (from Canada, Great Britain, the USA, France, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and many other countries) also participated in Brazil EDUEXPOS.

At the stand of SPbPU the public could learn about the advantages of Russian engineering education and curricula, which was especially interesting for Brazilian young people willing to gain competitive knowledge and develop as professionals.

It is worth mentioning that it was the second time the Polytechnic University participated in this event. In 2015 the staff of the international services of SPbPU also communicated with Brazilian school-leavers. The visitors answered the question, “Why would you like to study in Russia?” in the following way, “We know that the education at the Polytechnic University conforms to the general international standards. We want to work for high profile international companies and organizations. We are sure that having a degree of the Polytechnic University will enable us to achieve our goals”. It should be said that they have started selecting school-leavers eager to study in Russia at the Brazilian office of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo). The main competitive advantages of Russian education are its quality and low price in comparison with the leading European universities.

Obviously, we are aware that foreign students face certain difficulties when studying in Russia. We do our best to help them overcome all hurdles and to become fully involved in the educational process. Brazilian students are a special community. They miss sunny days when in Saint-Petersburg. Nonetheless, excellent career prospects after graduation, working for world-famous corporations and other various opportunities in life serve as the best motivation for them. We kindly welcome Brazilian students to study at the Polytechnic University and we are sure that they will do so. One of the students who visited the exhibition told us that his relatives had studied in Russia. This example is especially encouraging and their follower has already chosen a university to study at, and, not surprisingly, it is the Polytechnic University. We cannot but welcome this decision.

At the exhibition the visitors could also familiarize themselves with the international master’s degree programs offered by SPbPU, Summer School programs, various academic mobility offers, foundation and Russian language study programs.

“Young people from Brazil showed a keen interest in English-based programs including international master’s degree programs and the Summer School. During the exhibition seminars for visitors were held where I told students about Russia, Saint-Petersburg and about our university, of course. After that many of them came to our stand to get more information. For this exhibition we had prepared a video featuring Brazilian students studying at our university at the moment”, explained O.I. Krylova, Director of the Office for Coordination of International Educational Programs.

Summarizing the results of the meeting the organizers of Brazil EDUEXPOS expressed their hope to see the Polytechnic University as its participant again in the near future. In our turn we are certain that far more Brazilian students will study at our university than before and that our countries will become reliable partners.
