Negotiations with representatives of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU) (QS – 116) took place at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. Head of the department “Control Systems and Technology”, director of the scientific and technological complex “Mathematical Modeling and Intelligent Control Systems” V.P. SHKODYREV met the honored guests from China. Within the meeting, questions of joint research activity, educational projects, academic mobility, student exchange, and other lines of cooperation were discussed.

SPbPU is actively developing cooperation with universities; research, educational, innovative, industrial, business, and governmental organizations of PRC. Let us remind that in the middle of April, 2016, the delegation from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University headed by Vice-Rector for International Relations D.G. ARSENIEV visited the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The visit took place within the context of XI Annual Conference of the International Association “World Cities World Class University Network” (WC2). During an official meeting with the university leaders, the most important questions of cooperation, joint educational projects, academic mobility, and so on were discussed. Agreements on cooperation and student exchange between SPbPU and HKPU were signed.

In May, 2016, at the Supply Center of SPbPU with the participation of administrative and academic personnel, an open-table meeting was organized, dedicated to the issues of the Polytech’s internationalization strategy, development of cooperation in education and science, presentation of post-graduate programs of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

During the last visit of representatives of HKPU to SPbPU, Prof. V.P. Shkodyrev talked with Chinese counterparts about achievements and innovations of the university, showed unique laboratory equipment, and opportunities to apply the obtained results in practice. According to the participants of the meeting, the most relevant and valuable are ideas of creating and developing a “safe city”, in which great attention is paid to environmental problems. In his turn, Head of the Computer Science Department of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Jian-nong CAO said that a lot depends on correct functioning of intelligent robotics, which, at the current stage of scientific and technical progress, is quite actively applied.

“Innovations of specialists of the Chinese university in robotics and data processing systems have found wide application in modern industrial manufacturing, transport, and particularly in such an important project as the “Safe City”. Prof. Cao said that their projects on introducing distributed monitoring systems for technical state of city infrastructure objects can be used in the international market as well. He liked laboratories of intelligent robotics and cyberphysical control systems of our university very much,” – commented Prof. V.P. SHKODYREV.

Post-graduate students of the “Control Systems and Technology” department, participating in the partner event, noted the prospective projects of HKPU scientists.

“Achievements of specialists of the Chinese university lie in successful application of the developed methods in traditional fields. All participants of the meeting confirmed that we have much in common. I am sure that the experience of the Hong Kong Polytech in organizing large and strategic research will be useful for us,” – said a post-graduate student Sergey ZOBNIN.

At the end of the meeting, the parties signed the agreement which outlined two main aspects of the joint work: in science (projects in intelligent robotics, artificial intelligence, control systems, etc.) and in education (double degree programs in intelligent robotics, student exchange).
