On 31st May the Supply Center of the International Relations of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University held a meeting with the Advisor on Science and Technology of the Republic of India Embassy in Moscow, Dr. Abhishek Vajsh.

SPbPU was represented by Vice-Rector for International Relations D.G. Arseniev, Vice-Rector for Research, the Head of Nuclear and Heat Power Engineering Department of IETS V.V. Sergeev, the Head of the International Relations Department V.D. Khizhnyak and other members of our university.

The Polytechnic University and Indian Educational Centers have joint strategic projects, participate in the activities of the Association of Universities of Russia and the Republic of India, and share research and inter-university cooperation.

Today SPbPU cooperates with Indian Institute of Technology of Bombay, Indian Institute of Technology of Madras, Chandigarsky University, University of Applied Sciences named after Ramaya, University of Birla. The students from India take an active part in SPbPU summer schools, in the programs of academic mobility and semester exchanges, Indian professors give lectures for students of the Polytechnic University. Thus, in May 2016 as part of the ongoing international projects in IETS a lecture course was delivered by the Professor of Indian Institute of Technology Rafael Benny. Some other professors from India will also read lectures in the Polytechnic University in the autumn 2016.

Welcoming the Advisor on Science and Technology of the Republic of India Embassy in Moscow, Vice-Rector for International Relations D.G. Arseniev assured in further successful collaboration with Indian universities.

Dmitry Guermanovich spoke about SPbPU educational and research opportunities, the implementation of double degree programs, the exchange of teachers and students, the joint innovation projects and the achievements in various fields. For example, SPbPU Professor D.V. Frishman (Multidisciplinary Research Center RASA), who took part in the discussion by teleconferencing, is conducting a joint research with the Indian Institute of Technology of Madras at the moment (the topic of the research is Prediction of Disease-Causing Mutations in the Transmembrane Proteins).

Besides, within the framework of the program «Russian Federal Property Fund – India» in May 2016 there were applications for the following projects:

  • "Development and features of new materials for the capacitor-type energy storage devices" (Professor A.V. Filimonov, IPhNT - Indian Institute of Technology of Madras ); "Synthesis and modification of synergistic oxide nanocomposites for plasmon amplification of photodisintegration water" (Associate Professor P.A. Karasev, IPhNT - Dayalbagh Educational Institute);
  • "The automated technology of analysis of large data and parallel computing on supercomputers with hybrid architecture" (Professor V.P. Kotlyarov, IKNT - Indian Institute of Technology of Bombay);
  • "Data mining and pattern recognition to complex modeling of medical students of Indian and Russian universities on the basis of psycho-physiological, cognitive, socio-economic and educational data" ( Professor K.V. Shvetsov, IAMM - Baranasi Hindu University).

The Vice-Rector for International Relations D.G. Arseniev noted that the projects, that are supported at the state level, are primarily aimed at solving urgent and important issues related to the economy, industry and social trends. "The consolidation of efforts will undoubtfully lead to success," confirmed all the participants of the negotiations.

Together with D.G. Arseniev and other members of the University, Abhishek Vajsh discussed the procedure of applying for joint research projects, the prospects for educational cooperation between SPbPU and the universities of India, the participation in the joint development in the fields of energy, information technology, nanotechnology, technical direction, design and so on.

Abhishek Vajsh talked about the Global Initiative of Academic Network (GIAN), which provides the leading professors of Russian universities with participation in the educational life of India.

"The participation of the Polytechnic University in GIAN means exchange of experience and knowledge, as well as new prospects for the universities of India and Russia," said Dr. Vajsh.

During his visit to SPbPU the Advisor on Science and Technology of the Republic of India Embassy in Moscow saw the Supercomputer Center, the laboratory "Lightweight materials and constructions", the Engineering Center "Computer Engineering Center".

As the result of the meeting, SPbPU is planning to establish new contacts with the authorities of the Republic of India that are in charge of science and education.
