Collaboration between Polytechnic University and Ibero-America Goes Industrial

Through the inter-university strategic partnership to innovative practices and new results: at SPbPU, negotiations were held with representatives of international services and institutes of Polytechnic University and strategic partners of our university Madrid Polytechnic University (UPM) and the Spanish Talgo Company. The trilateral meeting took place with the participation of the Consul General of Spain in St. Petersburg Mr. Felix VALDES.

Polytechnic University is actively developing cooperation with the Ibero-American region with the assistance of foreign partners and the Information Center in Madrid which operates on the basis of UPM. Reaching a new stage of interaction with the industrial cluster of Ibero-America is one of the important and ambitious tasks of SPbPU. This topic was one of the key themes in the past negotiations.

On behalf of SPbPU, head of the International Relations Office Vladimir KHIZHNYAK welcomed the meeting participants. “We are pleased with the results of our cooperation with the regions of Ibero-America: this is an example of productive working relationships that we will continue to strengthen,” Vladimir KHIZHNYAK stressed.

The Consul General of Spain in St. Petersburg Mr. Felix VALDES, in his turn, noted that bringing universities into cooperation with companies opens up new prospects for both educational and industrial sectors. “Universities can offer companies new ideas and solutions, as well as send talented students to take internships; the latter might get promising jobs in the future and increase the economic potential of the enterprise,” commented the Consul General.

The meeting participants discussed opportunities for cooperation in the field of mutual interests: materials science, logistics, computer technology, biomedical technology, power and industrial electronics; as well as the launch of joint scientific and practice-oriented tripartite projects. Perhaps, in the near future, students of SPbPU and UPM will go on internships at Talgo. In addition, experts from the Spanish company were invited to participate in the International Polytechnic Summer and Winter Schools as speakers. The parties also discussed the possibility of creating a joint Summer School module. The meeting continued with a visit to a laboratory of Polytechnic University and acquaintance with the scientific and technical potential of SPbPU.
