The 2016 opening of the SPbPU Representative Office in Shanghai was a starting point for the dynamic growth of cooperation between the University and companies, universities, and governmental bodies in various Chinese regions. In the last few years, the number of partner organizations from the Heavenly Empire increased several-fold, providing an inflow of financial means from Chinese organizations to the University.

As part of the cooperation expansion strategy, a representative delegation of Chinese colleagues headed by the Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Jiangsu Province Mr. Jiang HON visited SPbPU on June 8, 2018. The Chinese delegation included representatives of various sections of the Department, heads of technology transfer and intellectual property promotion centers of Jiangsu Province, representatives of the Center for Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Facilitation of the South-East University, as well as leaders of high-tech companies of the region.

Vice Rector on International Activities D.G. ARSENYEV greeted the guests on behalf of Polytechnic University. He stressed that partnership of SPbPU Jiangsu Province is in its kind a bridge for the research and innovation collaboration with St. Petersburg and even Russia.

The speech of the Head of the Department for Development of Foreign Trade Activity and Information Support of Industry of the Committee for Industrial Policy and Innovation of St. Petersburg O.A. GORYSHINA was merely a confirmation to that position. In her presentation, she talked about the business potential of St. Petersburg as applied to the prospects of cooperation with the Administration and high-tech companies of Jiangsu Province, and also expressed interest in joint implementation of infrastructure projects with Chinese partners.

The head of the delegation of Jiangsu Province Jiang HON pointed out the favorable prospects for the development of the partnership. “On our part, we see a great potential in cooperation with Russian universities, especially with SPbPU,” Mr. HON said. “As the leading province of China in terms of economic development, Jiangsu is constantly in search of new technologies that can be successfully implemented at our enterprises.”

After the end of the official part of the meeting, representatives of the Department of Science and Technology of Jiangsu Province got an opportunity to learn more about the high-tech infrastructure of Polytechnic University. The guests visited the Polytechnic Supercomputer Center and the Laboratory of Light Materials and Structures in the science and research building of the University; members of the delegation were told about the latest developments in the field of artificial intelligence and material processing. Acquaintance with the University was crowned with a visit to the historic SPbPU Main Building.

In parallel with the excursion program, meetings with the research groups of the Polytechnic University implementing innovative projects in the fields of water purification and intelligent transportation systems were organized for the other part of the delegation consisting of CEOs of production companies, technology transfer offices, and specialists from the South-East University.

Professor of the Higher School of Biotechnology and Food Technology N.A. POLITAYEVA and Associate Professor of the Institute of Advanced Production Technologies A.P. PETKOV presented the developments in the sphere of creating sorption materials from industrial waste, as well as technologies for disinfection of water and wastewater treatment. The presented projects aroused immense interest of the Chinese party; the CEO of Jiangsu Jinzi Environmental Technology Stock Mr. Xie Xiaodong stressed that environmental technologies have a huge market in China and offered to test the proposed technologies in Jiangsu Province.

Professor of the Higher School of Software Engineering Yu.G. KARPOV and Associate Professor of the Telematics Department S.G. POPOV spoke about projects on predictive simulation for logistics and the creation of a telematic platform for intelligent transport systems.

Within the frame of elaboration on the program of further cooperation between Jiangsu Province, Polytechnic University, and the Government of St. Petersburg, the parties discussed prospects for joint development and implementation of strategies in the area of protecting intellectual property rights and providing for the technology transfer to the markets of China and Russia. Representative of the Center for Transfer of International Technology of Jiangsu Province Ms. Li Liangyen proposed to prepare and sign an agreement between the Administration of Jiangsu Province and the Government of St. Petersburg on protection of the intellectual property rights. In addition, the Russian party was invited to take part in one of the largest events in the field of technology transfer in China: the 6th International Transfer of Technology and Commercialization Conference, which will be held on November 8 – 10, 2018 in Jiangsu Province.
