Rector of SPbPU, Chairman of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrei Rudskoi

The Day of Russian Science in 2024 has a special meaning. We know that this holiday was established by presidential decree in 1999 in honor of the 275th anniversary of the founding of the Academy of Sciences. Since then, all Russian scientists celebrate their professional holiday on February 8.

A quarter of a century has passed, and now the Russian Academy of Sciences is already 300 years old! And congratulating today those who contribute to the development of science — academicians, researchers, professors, postgraduates and students — I want to emphasize: we are all «nestlings of Peter’s nest», the same St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences and Arts founded three centuries ago by the great emperor and transformer of Russia.

And one more anniversary is marked by the Day of Russian Science this year — on February 8 it was 190 years since the birth of the outstanding scientist and one of the founders of Polytechnic Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev.

Today, like Mendeleev, a man of encyclopedic mind, Polytechnic scientists conduct research in various fields: from digital technologies and energy to mechanical engineering and biomedicine, from law and management to materials science and cyber security. The developments of our scientists are implemented in production, and the results obtained in the scientific laboratories of the university are embodied in innovative projects.

Dear friends and colleagues, I congratulate you on the Day of Russian Science! Thank you for your labor, research talent, ability to think creatively and find solutions. I wish you to be happy in your professional activities, to be successful, to achieve results, and the highest reward for you may be the realization that you serve progress and change the life of mankind for the better.
