The Polytechnic University is not only prominent scientific schools of physicists, chemists, metallurgists and hydraulic engineers. Professors, researchers, alumni of the Polytechnic University were leading liberal arts scholars, whose works underlie a lot of scientific schools. Since its foundation the Polytechnic University has invited leading historians and philosophers for teaching History and Philosophy. The course of World History was given by I.M. Grevs, N.I.Kareev, V.A. Butenko, E.V. Tarle, D.M. Petrushevsky.

The Institute was founded by uniting two institutes - the Institute of Applied Linguistics and the Institute of Liberal Arts. The Institute is involved in teaching foreign languages and other liberal and social arts for those who seek bachelor's and master's degrees in eight majors. The Institute of Humanities offers a specialized qualification as "Translator in the field of professional communication". A wide range of international relations allow the students of the Institute to participate in different educational programs, including the “Double Degree” with the partner -university  in Spain.
