Visa Information
Before the arrival in the Russian Federation the foreign citizen, having the invitation of Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University, should issue a visa:
- either Employment visa - with the aim of teaching, for the work for a long time - more than 3 months;
- or Humanitarian visa – for scientific and technical links for the work up to 3 months.
Visa should indicate:
- "purpose of travel" – "teacher (teaching) " or "scientific and technical links";
- "host institution" – "Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University", or "SPbPU".
Planning and preparation
(essential steps before the arrival)
Head of a host unit should take the following steps before the arrival of the foreign citizen in Russia:
- Appoint a person responsible for the invitation and reception of the foreign citizen.
- Apply to the HR department with an internal memo and get advice regarding employment of a citizen of this state (depending on the state), the availability of free wages, etc.
- Get the following scanned documents of the foreign citizen:
- a copy of the first page of a national passport (for citizens of some countries scanned copies of other pages of the passport are required)
- a copy of the diploma or the certificate of qualifications assigned (PhD, Associate professor, etc.)
- Apply to the International Service Department of the International Office to get invitation on behalf of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University for entry into the Russian Federation (Institute of International Educational Programs, 15th Building, room 209, Tatiana I.Kovalenko), tel. 534-75-57).
- Provide a copy of passport and a copy of the diploma of the foreign citizen to the International Service Department for translation or provide the required translations.
- Pay state fees for invitation and registration of the foreign citizen, as well as cover postage expenses.
- In case of employment for a period of more than 3 months apply to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to have a certificate verifying the absence of the foreign citizen in the databases of persons with a criminal record preventing from employment to academic staff posts.
- Not later than 7 days prior to arrival in the Russian Federation inform the International Relations Office and the HR Department of the planned date of border crossing and make a memo for the reception.
The foreign citizen should take the following steps before the arrival in the Russian Federation:
The foreign citizen, having the invitation of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, should issue a visa:
- either Employment visa - with the aim of teaching, for the work for a long time - more than 3 months;
- or Humanitarian visa – for scientific and technical links for the work up to 3 months.
Step-by-step scheme after the arrival
Head of a host unit should take the following steps after the departure of the foreign citizen:
Not later than 3 days after the expiration of the employment agreement with foreign citizen and his departure from the Russian Federation present a reception report to the International Service Department of the International Relations Office.
The foreign citizen should take the following steps after the arrival in the Russian Federation:
1. Register no later than one day after arrival – to come in person to the Passport and Visa Department (15th Building, room 113) and provide the following documents, or transmit the documents through the person responsible for the invitation and reception of the foreign citizen:
- a copy of the first page of the passport and copies of the passport pages with visa (visa nationals);
- a copy of the migration card;
In case of violation of terms of registration, the person responsible for the invitation and reception of a foreign citizen must ensure the presence of a foreign citizen in the Passport and Visa Department of the police department of respective St. Petersburg district for payment of the fine.
In 3-4 days the foreign citizen or the person responsible for the invitation and reception of the foreign citizen should receive in Passport and Visa Department a detachable section of notification form of the residence in the Russian Federation.
2. Conclude an employment agreement with Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University, wherefore come in person to the HR Department and provide the documents:
- Passport + notarized translation in Russian language;
- Visa which indicates:
- "purpose of travel" – "teacher (teaching) " or "scientific and technical links";
- "host institution" – "St. Petersburg Polytechnic University", or "SPbPU";
- Education certificates corresponding to future post (+ notarized copies and translation);
- A copy of the migration card;
- The detachable section of notification form of the residence in the Russian Federation.
