Occupational Health and Safety Department
Occupational Health and Safety is a system aimed at preserving the life and health of workers during their work activities. It includes legal, socio-economic, organizational-technical, sanitary-hygienic, medical-preventive, rehabilitation, and other measures.
Occupational Health and Safety Department of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU)
The Occupational Health and Safety Department ensures the organization of preventive work to prevent occupational injuries, occupational diseases, and work-related illnesses, as well as efforts to improve working conditions and maintain a functioning system for preserving the life and health of the University’s employees and students.
Department staff perform their duties in accordance with the laws and other regulatory legal acts of the Russian Federation concerning occupational health and safety, the collective bargaining agreement, and other local regulatory legal acts of the University.
Main Objectives of the Occupational Health and Safety Department
- Organizing work to ensure employees comply with occupational health and safety requirements;
- Monitoring employees’ compliance with laws and other regulatory legal acts on occupational health and safety, the collective agreement, the occupational health and safety agreement, and other local regulatory legal acts of the University;
- Organizing preventive measures to prevent occupational injuries, occupational diseases, and illnesses caused by production factors, as well as work to improve working conditions;
- Providing information and consultation to University employees, including heads of structural units, on matters of occupational health and safety.
Functions of the Occupational Health and Safety Department
- Conducting induction (introductory) occupational health and safety briefings for all newly hired employees, business travelers, and workers from contractor organizations;
- Organizing and participating in the Special Assessment of Working Conditions (SAWC / SOUT), identifying hazardous and harmful production factors at workplaces in University departments;
- Informing employees about the results of the SAWC and the working conditions at their workplaces; preparing lists of professions and positions entitled to benefits and compensation for work under harmful and/or hazardous conditions based on SAWC results;
- Organizing and maintaining records of the free provision of milk to University employees engaged in work with harmful and/or hazardous conditions;
- Monitoring the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE), including special clothing, special footwear, and other means of individual protection;
- Participating in the investigation of accidents involving employees and students;
- Organizing mandatory preliminary and periodic medical examinations (health checks), as well as mandatory psychiatric evaluations for employees and applicants;
- Organizing training and knowledge testing on occupational health and safety requirements for University employees; participating in commissions for verifying employees’ knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements;
- Ensuring training and certification of employees in the field of industrial safety;
- Providing methodological assistance to heads of structural units in developing and revising occupational health and safety instructions for workers;
- Participating in the preparation of sections of the collective bargaining agreement related to working conditions and occupational health and safety, as well as the organization’s occupational health and safety agreement.
