SPbPU Improves its Position by 100 points in the Ranking of the Best Universities in the World THE

On September 11 the Times Higher Education published a ranking of the best universities in the world (THE World University Rankings). The Polytechnic University has added 100 positions and now is ranked between 501-600 in the global study. In the national ranking SPbPU has gained one position and is ranked 6th in the list of the best universities in Russia.

When issuing the raking Times Higher Education make the analysis of the performance indicators of universities, correlated with their strategic goals - teaching, research, citation, international activities and industry income. Every year the number of the universities is increasing: this year 1396 universities were included in the study.

The main reason for the Polytechnic University position improvement is due to the citation rate. SPbPU rose from 723rd position to 486th. Traditionally, the Polytechnic University showed an increase in the number of foreign students and faculty as well as the number of PhD and Doctoral students increased in relation to undergraduate students and faculty members.

The highest position among all indicators - 146th place in the world - Polytech took in terms of income coming from industry. SPbPU actively interacts with Russian and foreign enterprises, performing research and development (R&D) for their benefit. For example, last year the specialists of SPbPU Research Center “New Manufacturing Technologies” in cooperation with partners and members of the project consortium took part in the implementation of 57 R&D projects for the benefit of 45 enterprises. High-tech solutions have been developed for the construction of a new generation gas turbine engine, automobiles, electric vehicles, helicopter support systems, Antarctic sleds for transporting large multi-ton cargo, drilling mud cleaning systems, amphibious aircraft etc.

“The motto of our university is Great2be! And the efforts of each department, each unit, each professor and student are aimed at meeting the high standard set, - commented the Rector of SPbPU, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrei RUDSKOI. - We pay special attention to research: we develop the infrastructure and help our scientists publish their articles in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals. As for educational activities, we adhere to a practice-oriented approach. The largest international companies are showing interest in Polytech. For example, the Japanese corporation “Kawasaki” has established at the Polytech premises the only research and educational center for industrial robotics in Russia. For many years now, the Gazpromneft-Polytech Research and Education Center has been successfully operating. And SPbPU is the only university in Russia that the automobile giant Toyota has chosen to train hands-on engineers in the framework of the “Time to Grow” project. There are a lot of projects, and we will continue to develop."
