On August 31, 2021, the results of the Moscow international "Three University Missions" ranking of universities were published. SPbPU entered the interval group 301-350 in the international ranking and the group 12-14 among Russian universities.

The Moscow International "Three University Missions" Ranking is an academic ranking that evaluates all three key missions of a university: education, science, and interaction with society (“the third mission”). The ranking was initiated by the Russian Union of Rectors per the order of the President of Russia. Polytechnic University's high positions in this ranking confirm its reputation as a university with complex influence on the development of education, science, and society in general, as well as emphasize the success of our university's systematic work to increase R&D revenues, increase citations of publications, involve talented young people in both scientific research and social projects.

Polytechnic is a large, diverse university. Extensive ties with the economy, leadership in new educational technologies, including the online format, and systematic work with our audience: students, their parents, and partners - this is what has always been our competitive advantage. For example, the Russian indicator of representation on MOOC platforms, as noted by the authors of the ‘Three Missions’ ranking, is 43 percent higher than the global average. Polytechnic University makes a significant contribution to this leadership, being in top-3 in Russia in terms of the number of courses on the ‘Open Education’ platform and having more than a million audience on different platforms, says SPbPU Rector Andrei RUDSKOI about the results of the ranking.

Maria Vrublevskaya, Head of Strategic Planning and Development Programs of SPbPU, says: “One of the most important distinctions of this ranking is the focus on the ‘third mission’, that is, the influence of the university on society. In the next ten years, we will be implementing a development program directly aimed at increasing this impact, at enhancing Polytechnic's contribution to the quality of life of society, so we hope that we will continue to rank well in this rating and move up in it

For reference:

The “Three University Missions” ranking is formed based on the score of three groups of indicators: “Education” (45%), “Science” (25%), “University and Society” (30%). Only objective criteria approved by international experts were used to compile the ranking. In addition to traditional indicators of citations or staff support, the ranking uses innovative indicators related to the presence of the university in the Internet space, as well as the international achievements of students and scientists. This year, the ranking methodology has undergone several significant changes: the number of analyzed online course platforms was expanded from two to 54, and the weight of this indicator was increased; the weight of the indicator reflecting the number of Wikipedia pages devoted to University graduates was reduced.
