RAEX 2025: SPbPU ranks 8th among the top 100 universities in Russia
The RAEX-Analytics agency presented the results of its ranking of the top 100 universities in Russia at the Future of Higher Education forum, where SPbPU Rector Andrei Rudskoi and Vice Rector for Human Resources Maria Vrublevskaya participated as speakers. SPbPU ranked eighth among the country’s top 100 universities.
The ranking includes 166 universities from 40 regions of Russia. The most numerous category of universities in the RAEX-100 are technical universities. Thirty-seven such educational institutions were included among the best, compared to 35 a year earlier. Engineering and technical universities not only expanded their presence in the ranking, but also showed the best dynamics among all categories of participants. 54% of technical universities rose in the ranking compared to last year.
The number of students at RAEX-100 universities is growing. In 2025, the number of students exceeded 1.5 million for the first time. In the 2024-2025 academic year, the total number of students at Polytech increased from 29,622 to 30,870. The 2024 admissions campaign showed record numbers — more than 130,000 applications.
The ranking agency also noted a change in the age structure of the teaching staff at universities in the top 100. For example, at SPbPU, the share of young specialists in the total number of scientific and teaching staff has increased by 5% over the past three years.
When preparing the 2025 ranking, the questionnaire used statistical indicators as well as the results of online surveys of over 150,000 respondents: representatives of academic and scientific circles, students and graduates, and employers. The ranking function is determined based on an analysis of the following integral factors: conditions for obtaining a quality education (50%), the level of demand for graduates by employers (30%), and the level of scientific and research activity (20%). In 2025, a new criterion appeared in the ranking: «Number of graduates holding leadership positions in regional executive authorities.» It refers to the sub-ranking for assessing the quality of graduates’ careers.
