SPbPU in the top 60 best universities in the BRICS university ranking

The new BRICS university ranking is one of the first steps in the systematic assessment of the quality of higher education institutions in the BRICS countries. The list of the best universities of the BRICS countries included 161 universities from Russia. St. Petersburg Polytechnic University took 59th place in the overall ranking and 15th in Russia. The experts took the model of the international ranking «Three Missions of the University» as a basis and added national features characteristic of BRICS members. For example, students’ participation in international Olympiads provides a higher place in the ranking than the organization’s budget. The Association of Ranking Compilers emphasizes that the methodology for evaluating universities uses only verifiable objective indicators and does not depend on subjective assessments of experts.

We perceive the creation of the ranking of universities in the BRICS countries as a crucial step towards an objective assessment of the universities of the association, taking into account their national identity. The rating reflects our interaction with the BRICS countries in the field of education: the number of international students studying with us, as well as victories in prestigious international competitions. Also, the position in the rating was positively affected by the citation of our scientists in Russian scientific publications, said Maria Vrublevskaya, Acting Vice-Rector for Advanced Projects.

The idea to create its own rating of universities was fixed in the final declaration on the results of the meeting of BRICS education ministers. This association of states with a population of more than 3.6 billion people is now the largest educational market in the world.
