SPbPU Took Part in the 4th Russian International Energy Forum (RIEF – 2016)
The 4th Russian International Energy Forum took place at EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Centre from 17th to 20th May, in which Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, the largest engineering university in Russia, traditionally took part.
One of the current issues discussed at the Forum was the cooperation between power generation companies and educational establishments in the sphere of developing and appraising educational programs designed to train specialists for the power industry. At the event SPbPU was represented by O.V. Novikova, Associate Professor at the Department of Economics and Management in Power Engineering, the Institute of Industrial Management, Economics and Trade (IIMET), who spoke about the fruitful partnership between the university and the companies PJSC Gazprom Neft and TGC-1 JSC. In this partnership IIMET is responsible for developing supplementary education programs which are used by employers to train specialists in specific fields. At present power engineering companies and the Polytechnic University are working on an interdepartmental master’s degree program called Industrial Engineering in Power Industry.
In addition, students of the Polytechnic University provided career advising for school-leavers of Saint-Petersburg. The idea of such a project was conceived by Olga V. Novikova, Associate Professor at the Department of Economics and Management in Power Engineering, IIMET, on whose initiative the project has been implemented since 2015 together with the Committee for Energetic and Engineering Support of Saint-Petersburg City Administration. The organizers believe that their main goal lies in popularizing the ideas of energy saving and energy efficiency, as well as providing school students with an opportunity to choose a career in this sphere.
At the Forum master’s degree students of the Department of Economics and Management in Power Engineering, IIMET presented their work; they had created a new environmental project supported by the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs of the Russian Federation.
