The Regional Cisco Networking Academy was founded in SPbPU in the spring of 1999 and was based on the Graduate School of Engineering of the Institute of Computer Science and Technology. The educational program, offered by Cisco, is broadened and successfully introduced in programs of first and second higher education of various departments of ICST. More than 1300 students have entered the Academy for 17 years of the successful cooperation between SPbPU and Cisco. From the autumn of 2009 the "IT Academy for Schoolchildren" joined the Cisco Networking Academy programs and today more than 550 schoolchildren have taken classes in Cisco network technologies.

"The academic process in our department, apart from strong fundamental disciplines and unique author courses, implies the introduction of academic initiatives of the well-known world's IT-vendors. Particularly, for several years our bachelors have been successfully given the course on network technologies in English with the help of authorized materials of Cisco Networking Academy," – comments Deputy Head of the Intelligent Computer-Aided Technologies Department A.V. Schukin. Students of the SPbPU Cisco Academy not only get the unique access to educational materials and equipment of Cisco, but also useful practical skills and experience, independently creating and designing local and global networks, which are needed for the Cisco professional certification in CCNA Routing and Switching.

The final certification for the course, apart from examinational tasks from the lecturer, implied the Cisco final test. Deputy Head of the Intelligent Computer-Aided Technologies Department A.V. Schukin and professor of the course I.Y. Bryk presented students with certificates, which confirm the successful certification for the first course within the framework of Cisco Networking Academy, and also with letters of congratulation. "In my opinion, the Cisco courses are a great opportunity to acquire knowledge and valuable information, and not just theoretical. Much of the study material I've already put into practice. And the certificates that we received after finishing the course confirm that we have proper knowledge and, moreover, motivate to study further," – said the 3rd year student of the Intelligent Computer-Aided Technologies Department of ICST Roman Beltyukov.

The certificates, received by the students, confirm the high status of their knowledge in Cisco network technologies of the 1st level and give an opportunity for the professional international certification CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate).
