The best engineering education in Russia for applicants from Kazakhstan: SPbPU at the “Study in Russia” exhibition

3 December 2024 Education 195

The educational exhibition «Study in Russia» organized by the Rossotrudnichestvo agency was held in Astana. The event presented 46 universities, including Polytechnic University, which attracted the attention of about 500 applicants and their parents.

Polytechnic University at the educational exhibition

Earlier, the press center of Sputnik Kazakhstan hosted a press conference of Rossotrudnichestvo and representatives of leading Russian universities, including SPbPU. At the event, experts discussed various options for enrollment in Russian universities.

A vital aspect when foreign applicants choose an educational institution is inter-university cooperation. Russian universities are actively developing partnerships with Kazakh universities. SPbPU, for its part, has many years of experience in cooperation with Kazakh universities on programs of joint postgraduate courses, attraction of Kazakh researchers as teachers, the features of possible cooperation within the framework of the national project of advanced engineering schools, which is planned to be launched in Kazakhstan, are being worked out.

Polytechnic University was represented at the exhibition by Maria Bocharova, Director of the Center for International Recruitment and Communications, and Miroslava Dergileva, Leading Specialist of the Department for Work with Foreign Students.

SPbPU’s stand was visited by more than 500 people

This year’s educational exhibition was visited by more than 3.5 thousand students and schoolchildren of Kazakhstan and their parents. At the mount of Polytechnic University, about 500 people interested in different areas of study got consultations. Of special interest were such specialties as IT and software engineering, nuclear energy, architecture and building design, biotechnology in food production, design, economics and management, as well as tourism and advertising.

Polytechnic University offers great opportunities for Kazakh applicants — budgetary admission to the main educational programs of bachelor’s and master’s degrees and postgraduate studies on two tracks — the quota of the Russian government and the International Olympiad «Open Doors: Russian scholarship», which run in parallel. This creates additional chances for students from Kazakhstan to get quality engineering education in Russia.

SPbPU experts advise Kazakh applicants

The number of international students from Kazakhstan at St. Petersburg Polytechnic University continues to grow. For comparison: in 2023/2024 academic year, 44 Kazakh applicants were admitted under the quota (35 for bachelor’s degree and 9 for master’s degree programs), while in 2024/2025 academic year the number of students from Kazakhstan amounted to 107 people (40 for bachelor’s degree, 62 for master’s degree and 9 for postgraduate studies). Thus, we see in the current academic year an increase in the number of students who chose Polytechnic University as a priority university for enrollment.

Educational events like the ‘Study in Russia’ exhibition held in Astana are unique platforms for foreign applicants. Here, young and talented people can learn more about the various educational programs offered by Russian universities. Parents also have the opportunity to get answers to important questions about life in Russia. Applicants who have already made their choice can consult with university representatives, as was the case this year. Many of those who applied for admission through the quota actively inquired about their next steps, including questions about how to contact the university and the living conditions in the dormitories, emphasized Evgeniya Satalkina, Head of the International Education Department.

We remind that foreign citizens wishing to study at Polytechnic University free of charge can send an application until January 15, 2025.
