13 Polytechnics ranked among the world's most cited scientists
Elsevier published updated lists of the world’s most cited scientists for the past year and for their entire scientific careers.
Stanford University (USA) annually collects and analyzes information from the international scientific database Scopus about the most authoritative scientists. Both qualitative and quantitative citation metrics are taken into account when compiling the rankings. The information obtained is posted on the website of Elsevier publishing house. According to the company’s data, the scientists represented in the lists make up 2% of the most influential scientific specialists. Among them are 13 scientists from SPbPU.

Nine researchers of the university were included in both ratings at once: the most cited authors according to the results of 2023 and for their entire research career. The greatest successes were achieved by:
- Nikolay Vatin — Director of the Scientific and Technological Complex «Digital Engineering in Civil Engineering», Doctor of Engineering;
- Vladimir Mostepanenko — Chief Researcher of the Scientific Laboratory «Micro- and Nanoelectronic Systems on a Crystal» of AES «Digital Engineering», Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences;
- Vadim Davydov — Leading Engineer of the Center for New Materials of the Research and Modeling of Materials Research Center of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Transport, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences;
- Galina Klimchitskaya — Chief Researcher of the Scientific Laboratory «Micro- and nanoelectronic systems on a crystal» of AES «Digital Engineering», Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences;
- Anatoly Popovich — Director of the Institute of Machinery, Materials and Transport, Doctor of Engineering;
- Lev Utkin — Professor of the Higher School of Artificial Intelligence Technologies, Institute of cybersecurity and computer science; Doctor of Engineering;
- Anton-Irzhi Krivtsov — Director of the Graduate School of Theoretical Mechanics and Mathematical Physics at the Institute of Physics and Mechanics, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences;
- Mikhail Shur — Leading Researcher of the laboratory «Computational Hydroaeroacoustics and Turbulence» of the STC «Mathematical Modeling and Intelligent Control Systems» AES «Digital Engineering», Candidate of Physics and Mathematics.
- Andrey Travin — Senior Researcher of the Laboratory «Computational Hydroaeroacoustics and Turbulence» of the Scientific and Technical Center «Mathematical Modeling and Intelligent Control Systems» AES «Digital Engineering», Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences
In addition, two researchers of Polytechnic University are noted in the list of the most cited by the results of the past year. The ranking for 2023 includes Mikhail Strelets — Head of the Laboratory «Computational Hydroaeroacoustics and Turbulence» of the STC «Mathematical Modeling and Intelligent Control Systems» of the Digital Engineering AES, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, and Sergey Barykin — Professor of the Higher School of Service and Trade of the Institute of Industrial Management, Economics and Trade, Doctor of Economics.
Also, two SPbPU scientists are included in the annual list of the most cited authors in terms of their entire career path. They are Sergey Shevkunov — Leading Researcher at the Center for Technological Projects, Doctor of Engineering, and Sergey Roschupkin — Professor at the Graduate School of Fundamental Physical Research of the Institute of Physics and Mechanics, Doctor of Engineering.
