Academic fraternity: St. Petersburg Branch of the RAS concluded an agreement with colleagues from Shanghai

On November 14, within the framework of Polytechnic University’s visit to the People’s Republic of China, Andrei Rudskoi, Rector of SPbPU and Chairman of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, signed a cooperation agreement with Hu Jinbo, Director of the Shanghai Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Scientific institutions of the St. Petersburg Branch of the RAS demonstrate great research potential in such fields as physics, chemistry, medicine, biology, physiology, pharmacology, mathematics, mechanics, computer science, materials science, telecommunications, and ecology. Research is being conducted for the development of the Arctic region, and major projects are underway in the fields of construction, energy, environmental safety, technologies related to artificial intelligence, and mechanical engineering development. Similar research works can be found in the institutes of the Shanghai Branch of CAS.

Therefore, the main goal of the agreement is to develop cooperation to expand academic exchange between research institutes of our countries and to establish long-term mutually beneficial partnership for the benefit of society.

The St. Petersburg Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences represents the entire scientific potential of Russia. This makes it possible to expand cooperation in all areas necessary for the development of our countries. I would like to emphasize that this is my first foreign visit as Chairman of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and it is not by chance that we have chosen Shanghai. This shows our priority in the development of international relations, with whom we should work closely and brotherly. We will work with the Shanghai Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences both through the RAS and the university, said Andrei Rudskoi.

The key areas of partnership include:

• Exchange of academic materials, publications, research results and information
• Assistance in the organization and implementation of joint research and innovation projects
• Organization of joint seminars, conferences, symposia and other scientific meetings
• Exchange of researchers and experts
• Encouraging the establishment of joint laboratories and centers
• Exploring opportunities for increasing the efficiency of introducing high technologies into industry.

At the end of the meeting Andrei Rudskoi invited his colleagues to take part in the celebrations of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which will be held in 2024.
