A key meeting of the Council of the Consortium of Educational and Scientific Organizations was held to approve candidates for the honorary title of «Ambassador of Russian Education and Science.» In February 2023, an agreement was signed on the consortium of universities and scientific organizations to implement the «Ambassadors of Russian Education and Science» program. Polytechnic University is among the universities implementing the program.

During the session, 21 nominations from 12 Russian universities were considered. Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University nominated its candidates—Liu Wei (China) and Issa Togo (Mali).

Liu Wei, Secretary General of the Institute of Russia at Tsinghua University

Both candidates are long-standing partners of the Polytechnic University, whose activities have contributed to the promotion of Russian education abroad for decades. Liu Wei, Secretary General of the Institute of Russia at Tsinghua University, has been overseeing scientific and technical cooperation with the Russian Federation since 2002: under her leadership, dozens of projects have been implemented, including Russian-Chinese dialogues on innovation, the creation of Russian language testing centers, and youth competitions.

Issa Togo, a 1985 graduate of the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute, associate professor at SPbPU, and honorary consul of Mali in St. Petersburg, coordinates academic ties with African universities, participates in the reform of higher education in Mali, and heads a large-scale hydropower project.

The Consortium Council unanimously approved the candidates and sent the documents for final approval to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. If successful, Liu Wei and Issa Togo will join the ranks of 24 current ambassadors from 22 countries.

Dmitry Arseniev, Vice Rector for International Affairs at SPbPU, commented: «Liu Wei and Issa Togo are not just allies, but living bridges between cultures. Their dedication to education is the polytechnic spirit in action: when a graduate, wherever they may be, continues to carry the banner of their alma mater. We are proud that it is our candidates who set the tone in promoting Russian values abroad. Their recognition is an investment in a future where science and education know no boundaries.»

The Russian Education and Science Ambassadors program, which brings together 44 universities in the country, has awarded the title to 24 experts from Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America since 2023. SPbPU is traditionally among the most active participants in the initiative.
