China University of Geosciences Beijing intends to develop information technologies with SPbPU

Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University held a meeting with representatives of the China University of Geosciences Beijing, to discuss prospects for joint cooperation in education and science. CUGB is a key national university reporting directly to the Ministry of Education and built jointly with the Ministry of Natural Resources of China.

During a videoconference earlier this year, the two sides expressed interest in developing a joint master’s degree program in intelligent control systems. At the meeting in SPbPU’s International Department, the delegation was received by Dmitry Arseniev, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Vladimir Khizhnyak, Head of the International Cooperation Department, Vyacheslav Shkodyrev, Director of the Scientific and Technological Complex «Mathematical Modeling and Intelligent Control Systems», and Tatiana Sytnikova, Deputy Head of the International Education Department.

Vice-Rector Dmitry Arseniev noted: Polytechnic’s cooperation with Chinese universities is actively developing: today SPbPU has more than 70 partners in the PRC, including strategic partners such as Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University. More than 2,300 undergraduate and graduate students from China study at the university, which testifies to the high interest in Russian education. New collaborations always lead to the creation of new joint research projects.

Vyacheslav Shkodyrev showed his colleagues from China the laboratories and centers of the Higher School of Cyber-Physical Systems Management. He told them about promising areas in the field of artificial intelligence, intelligent control systems, in which our universities can cooperate.

During the visit they discussed the development of cooperation not only in intelligent control systems, but also in energy, materials science, additive technologies and mechanical engineering.

Key areas of cooperation include the development of joint undergraduate and graduate educational programs, exchange of professors to give lectures, and implementation of joint research projects. Joint research projects and publications, academic exchange programs, this is just a small part of what we can realize together with Polytechnic University. Our universities have many points of contact in advanced scientific areas. This means that we have a lot to share with each other.

At the end of the visit, the Chinese colleagues visited the Polytechnic Supercomputer Center and the Gazpromneft-Polytech Research and Education Center.
