On 19th October 2015 at the Supply Center for International Activity the staff of the Polytechnic University met a delegation of the Ocean University of China represented by Vice-President Zhang Chao Nhu, Kim Xiaoming, Director of the Postgraduate Department, Zhang Jinghua, Deputy Director of the International Relations Office, Yang Jing, Deputy Director of the College of Engineering, and Kao Ruixu, Director of the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences.

One of the main activities of the University is international scientific cooperation. A program for teaching foreign students has been run there since 1958. At present more than 60 universities worldwide are partners of the University. Every year more than one thousand students from 30 countries study there.

The Polytechnic University is interested in cooperation with the Ocean University of China very much. This University makes a great effort to establish and strengthen partnership with the leading universities of the world and to support strategic projects.

At the meeting that took place at the Polytechnic University the Russian and Chinese colleagues discussed the issues of scientific cooperation and the efficiency of their future educational contacts. The representatives of the Chinese University demonstrated an interest in exchange programs for bachelor’s and master’s degree students, postgraduate programs, joint educational programs, as well as mutual recognition of credentials and science degrees. The administration of the Ocean University of China invites lecturers from SPbPU to give lectures. The University also needs help in terms of developing bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. In the nearest future postgraduate students from the Chinese University are supposed to continue their education at SPbPU.

“We are sure of a friendly and loyal attitude to our country. A lot of my compatriots show a lively interest and a deep respect for the innovative achievements of Russian scientists. I believe in great prospects and results of our productive cooperation”, said Vice-President Zhang Chao Nhu.

In his turn, V.D. Khizhnyak, Director of the International Relations Office, told the Chinese delegation about the competitive advantages of SPbPU. “We kindly invite your students to take part in summer schools and to join various educational programs. A degree of a leading engineering university of Russia is in demand on the international labor market, and the knowledge obtained from our lecturers is a key to a successful career and a prolific professional future”, said V.D. Khizhnyak.

Foreign guests were shown a film about the history of the Polytechnic University. “The legendary history of our University confirms the importance and influence of SPbPU on the international academic community. We are happy to find ourselves at one of the oldest Russian universities, which is a leader on the educational market. We wish you to flourish and invite you to pay a visit to the city of Qingdao, which has all reasons to be called a pearl of China”, said the guests.

At the end of the meeting the participants exchanged gifts and souvenirs that are bound to remind them about the friendly visit.

The Ocean University of China is a large multi-profile University controlled by the administration of the Ministry of Education PRC. The University is very popular in the world; it prepares specialists in the sphere of marine industry and oceanology. The University is located in the picturesque coastal city of Quingdao. In 2008 a sailing regatta was held there as part of the Olympic Games. The Ocean University of China was founded in 1924. In 1960 the University became one of the 13 key universities for education and science in China. Today The Ocean University of China comprises 22 faculties and colleges; there are 131 varieties of master’s degrees, 44 doctoral programs and 8 postdoctoral ones. There are more than 20,000 students including about 5,000 postgraduate students.
