Friendship without borders: International students of SPbPU held an unforgettable joint field trip

The Student Council of Dormitories #12 and #13 of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University organized a unique event for international students living in the university’s dormitories. More than 30 students from Guinea, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Zambia, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Yemen, Bangladesh, Iran, China took part in it.

The first joint trip of international students from different dormitories of Polytechnic University took place on the Laskovy Beach. The participants had fun to the rhythms of the musical group of students from Indonesia and actively participated in team games. They shared their experience in developing student councils in foreign dormitories. The student council of Dormitory #13 shared best practices, inspiring the guys not to be afraid to act.

The main organizer of the event Ekaterina Tarbaeva, Deputy Chair of the Student Council of Dormitory #13, noted the importance of adaptation of international students and familiarizing them with the amazing places of St. Petersburg. «We strived to create environments for exchange of experience and development of student self-governance in dormitories. Our goal is to show that students have many opportunities to interact and develop,» Ekaterina emphasized.

The outing was a great opportunity for students to get to know each other in an informal atmosphere, discuss problems and ideas to improve life in the dormitories. The lack of close interaction between international students is an urgent problem that we strive to solve, she added.

The event highlighted the importance of creating an information infrastructure for students living in the modules so that they can keep abreast of all activities and events.

Polytechnic University is one of the most international universities in Russia. It is extremely important that students feel comfortable living in another country, as it makes the learning process much easier. Such events are the first and important step towards strengthening ties between international students and developing student self-governance at SPbPU.
