International Students of Polytechnic University are Prize-Winners of an International Olympiad in Kazan
Students of the preparatory department of the Higher School of International Educational Programs of SPbPU took part in two major academic events held in Kazan at the Preparatory Faculty for International Students of Kazan Federal University. Future bachelors and pre-master’s students of Polytechnic University competed in the VI International Olympiad for international students of preparatory faculties, which gathered representatives from 46 universities across more than 60 countries, and the V International Scientific and Practical Conference «Discovering the World of Science.»
The intellectual competition was held in two rounds. In the first round, participants demonstrated proficiency in the Russian language, knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, and Russian cultural traditions. The second round featured an intellectual game «I Know» on specialized disciplines. Polytechnic University was represented by pre-bachelor students Bui Nguyen Bao Ngoc from Vietnam, Manhissa Petrosse Raimundo from Mozambique, and Zhang Zhuohao from China, under the guidance of senior lecturer of additional education Ksenia Lysyak. Based on the results of the Olympiad, Zhang Zhuohao won a 1st Degree Diploma in the natural science and engineering-technical profile (mathematics and physics). Bui Nguyen Bao Ngoc became the recipient of a 2nd Degree Diploma in the humanities profile (Russian history, social studies, literature). Additionally, Manhissa Petrosse Raimundo received two awards: a nomination «For Expressive Performance» in the Russian language and a nomination «For Excellent Knowledge of Mathematics.» Bui Nguyen Bao Ngoc shared her impressions: I really liked the Olympiad — everything went wonderfully. I am very happy with my victory and the achievements of my fellow students. The trip was interesting and, I am sure, will be remembered by us for a long time. Thank you to our teachers for their comprehensive support. I would especially like to mention the participants: all the guys are kind and friendly. Even though we were competing, the atmosphere was very warm.
Concurrently, as part of the conference «Discovering the World of Science,» pre-master’s and pre-bachelor students of Polytechnic University presented scientific reports under the guidance of senior lecturer of additional education Daria Ignatieva. At the natural science section, May Meta from Cambodia presented a study on the design of reinforced concrete beams and took first place. Shapata Izake Bazilio Vintala from Mozambique spoke about the analysis of transformer failures in the distribution network of his country, and Karin Bianca Machlope from South Africa presented a report «NHLOVISO SOLUTIONS.»
Particular interest among participants was aroused by an open lecture in English by Marco Antonio Senturion from Brazil on the topic «Unveiling the Mysteries of the Birth of Supermassive Black Holes,» based on the latest astrophysical research.
Based on the results of the conference, the jury highly appreciated the scientific potential of the international students of SPbPU, and the exchange of experience among young researchers from different countries allowed for discussion of promising areas of science. Participation in such events is part of the strategy for academic adaptation of international students to the Russian scientific environment.
