Joint projects between SPbPU and KRSU: contributing to the development of the scientific potential of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University

9 July 2025 International activities 484

During the first week of July, another working visit by a delegation from Polytechnic University to the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (KRSU) took place. This time, the purpose of the visit was to discuss joint activities aimed at developing the scientific potential of KRSU.

Familiarization with scientific equipment and research areas of the observatory

The working program of the visit focused on two areas: developing a comprehensive development plan for the High-Altitude Observatory of Atmospheric Processes at KRSU and jointly implementing applied projects in the interests of the KRSU’s industrial partner, Alliance Altyn.

The High-Altitude Observatory of Atmospheric Processes at the Kyrgyz State University (HAO AP) is located in the northeast of Kyrgyzstan and is a unique scientific laboratory conducting research in the fields of atmospheric physics, ecology, climate change, geosphere interactions, geodynamics, and seismology. To familiarize themselves with the scientific equipment and research areas of the HAO AP at KRSU, a delegation from Polytechnic University visited the observatory, assessed the capabilities of the infrastructure, and held an off-site meeting to develop directions for the observatory’s development and possible applied projects that SPbPU and KRSU could jointly implement. During the meeting, representatives of Polytechnic University proposed a number of joint applied projects aimed at solving the problems of preserving a safe environment both in the Issyk-Kul Lake area and in Bishkek. In particular, a project to measure the parameters of aerosol dust flows based on the HAO AP at KRSU, as well as dust levels within the city of Bishkek.

The parties discussed a modernization plan and a joint eco-project

The second stop for the SPbPU delegation was the Russian Academy of Sciences’ scientific station in Bishkek. The RAS Scientific Station conducts research on modern geodynamic processes as a basis for earthquake forecasting, seismological research based on a digital telemetric seismological network in the Bishkek forecasting area, and a number of other studies related to seismic processes in the region. For KRSU, this scientific center is a partner for student internships and practical training, as well as for conducting scientific work, including jointly with the HAO AP at KRSU.

The SPbPU delegation visited the RAS Scientific Station in Bishkek

The final stage of the SPbPU delegation’s working visit to Kyrgyzstan was a joint extended meeting of representatives of the two universities. During the meeting, following the visits to the High-Altitude Observatory of Atmospheric Physics and the RAS Scientific Station in Bishkek, the parties confirmed their interest in the joint development of the infrastructure of the HAO AP at KRSU and the implementation of scientific and educational projects based on it. Issues of cooperation between the research groups of the two universities and interaction with industrial partners in the implementation of joint projects were also discussed.

Meeting to agree on joint projects with Alliance Altyn

A separate meeting was also held to coordinate joint projects with Alliance Altyn an industrial partner of KRSU.

Natalia Politaeva and Nikita Golovin

During the meeting, issues related to the conclusion of contracts for R&D, as well as the involvement of students and young scientists in applied research and industrial projects, were discussed. Based on its own experience of working with large industrial companies, SPbPU also made a number of recommendations on contractual work with Alliance Altyn and proposed considering the opening of a specialized scientific and educational center at KRSU in conjunction with the partner company.

The recent visit was another important step in the implementation of the SPbPU-KRSU Roadmap. Specific activities and projects that the universities are implementing jointly are making a significant contribution to achieving the goals of the KRSU Development Strategy until 2040.
