Peruvian Schoolchildren Got Acquainted with SPbPU

A delegation from Peru paid an introductory visit to SPbPU. The guests of the university were 17 schoolchildren from the South American country, who arrived accompanied by teachers and representatives of the ALAR association — the Latin American-Russian Association.

A rich program was organised for the guests, including a campus tour and a visit to the SPbPU History Museum. During the event, university representatives spoke in detail about the current development of the institution, its leading research projects, current areas of training, study conditions and the admission procedure for foreign citizens. The schoolchildren learned about the specialties and prospects that open up for international students.

Following the meeting, the parties discussed further steps for cooperation. Representatives of the ALAR association and the schoolchildren showed significant interest in the university’s activities and its educational programs. Currently, possibilities are being considered for Peruvian schoolchildren to subsequently enrol at SPbPU, as well as their participation in the international summer and winter schools implemented by the university.

We are very glad to see such keen interest in SPbPU on the part of Peruvian schoolchildren. We regard Latin America as a new promising region for the development of educational cooperation and are confident that today’s introduction will become the first step for the students towards becoming part of our large international family in the future, noted Head of the Department of International Educational Programs and Academic Mobility Olga Emelianova.

The visit to SPbPU became a truly vivid and informative event for us. We saw the university from the inside: we toured the campus, visited the museum, had lunch in the student canteen — and experienced firsthand what Russian student life is like. We were told in detail about the educational programs, and throughout the day we were accompanied by university staff who were very attentive to any of our questions. I am sincerely grateful to my colleagues for the warm welcome and such a rich program, shared her impressions representative of the ALAR association Camino Flores Sandra Paola. The delegation also included IT and media resources specialist of the ALAR association Mejia Tejada Irvin Victor, who highly praised the organisation of the event: The visit to SPbPU exceeded our expectations, especially thanks to how closely we were able to get acquainted with how university life in Russia is actually organised. The presentation on academic opportunities allowed us to discover new prospects for future cooperation and clarify many questions.

The meeting ended with an unexpected and vivid surprise: the Peruvian delegation organised an impromptu performance — the schoolchildren performed a national Peruvian dance, causing genuine admiration among the receiving side.

The introduction to the university, its rich history and modern educational opportunities not only aroused genuine interest among the guests from Peru, but also laid a solid foundation for further cooperation. The parties confirmed their readiness to implement joint projects, including the participation of Peruvian applicants in SPbPU’s summer and winter schools and their subsequent enrolment at the university.
