In 2021, the partnership between SPbPU and UPM will celebrate its tenth anniversary: the universities signed their first cooperation agreement in April 2011. On this occasion, the parties are planning to hold a series of joint online lectures by professors from both universities in various fields. In addition to the approaching anniversary date, important topics were the participation of Technical University of Madrid in the International Student Project Marathon and the launch of joint educational programs.

“We appreciate the interest of the Technical University of Madrid in developing relations with Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and its willingness to connect to joint projects. The series of meetings we had this week, without further ado, shows that every year there are more and more common points of contact. For example, to date, the joint student project marathon with UPM has been launched in two spheres, and based on the results of the past online meetings, we managed to identify at least three more scientific directions for joint projects,” said Lana KALIKINA, Coordinator of Cooperation with the Ibero-American Partners.

As part of the online meetings, Russian and Spanish colleagues discussed the development of cooperation in the field of energy, participation in the International Student Project Marathon and opportunities for implementation of joint programs of the summer school. This was discussed by Alena ALESHINA, Deputy Director for International Affairs of IE and Miguel JIMÉNEZ CARRIZOSA, professor at the School of Mining and Energy. On the development of joint activities in the field of Russian and Spanish languages and culture of both countries, in particular, the launching of language summer schools, the director of the HS IEP Victor KRASNOSHCHEKOV, director of the Language Center of the UPM Vicente VALVERDE, representatives of higher schools and institutes held talks. In order to intensify cooperation in the field of materials science, Deputy Director for International Affairs IMM&T Anton NAUMOV, head of the Laboratory of Lightweight Materials and Structures Oleg PANCHENKO, and Professor of the School of Engineering and Industrial Design Pedro ARMISEN BOBO met online to discuss research partnerships and attract professors from both universities to deliver lectures. In the process of negotiations, the professors identified a number of scientific tasks that are of interest to Russia and Spain and agreed to hold a working meeting soon to discuss details of joint work, including that with the involvement of industrial partners.

“We noted the high interest of the research teams at both universities in developing collaboration. We stayed in touch and worked together even during the pandemic, but each of us sincerely hopes that in the near future we will be able to hold joint events and work on projects in a full-time format - we all miss that,” said HERRERO, UPM coordinator of cooperation with the Russian Federation.
