Polytechnic University develops cooperation with China
On October 25, a delegation from Nanjing University (China) headed by one of its leaders, Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party Council of the University, Academician Tieniu Tan, visited SPbPU. Dmitry Arseniev, Vice-Rector for International affairs, welcomed the guests on behalf of Polytechnic University.
Nanjing University is one of the best universities in China, ranked 73rd in the Times Higher Education ranking, and is a member of the nine elite universities of China «C9 League». The university leads the world in natural science publications.
We know that Nanjing University is ranked fourth in the world according to the Nature Index 2023 Tables, higher than MIT and Cambridge University. Polytechnic University is open to cooperation with leading universities from other countries, we are actively expanding our partner network, and therefore the visit of one of the leading technical universities in China is very important. Today we hope to outline the goals and stages of our future cooperation with Nanjing University, said Dmitry Arseniev.

Dmitry Arseniev and Vyacheslav Shkodyrev, Director of the Scientific and Technological Complex «Mathematical Modeling and Intelligent Control Systems» familiarized the delegation with the activities of the laboratories «Intelligent Control Systems» and «Intelligent Robotics and Cyber-Physical Systems». The Chinese guests learned about the research directions of Russian colleagues and were impressed by our achievements. The parties agreed to cooperate in the preparation of scientific publications and holding a joint international scientific conference in the field of artificial intelligence in industry and intelligent control systems in 2025. In addition, they discussed issues of Nanjing University’s participation in SPbPU’s master’s degree program «Intelligent Systems», creation of a joint postgraduate training program and exchange of members of dissertation councils.
Tatyana Kovalenko, Head of the Sector of Short-term International Educational Programs, and Dr. Wang Lei, Head of the Department of Russian Language, Deputy Director of the Center for Russian Studies of Nanjing University, also held talks on the prospects of cooperation between our universities.
The School of Foreign Languages of Nanjing University has about 100 students studying Russian language, all levels are involved — from undergraduate to postgraduate. An important and developing area is the study of Russian civilization and culture. The parties identified the prospects for the development of interaction with the Higher School of International Educational Programs of SPbPU. First of all, these are advanced training programs for Russian language teachers from Nanjing University and participation of Nanjing students in academic exchange programs in the direction of «Russian language and culture». During the talks, they also discussed the organization of visiting master classes for teachers of the SPbPU GSOM at Nanjing University, as well as the writing and publication of joint articles.
