Polytechnic University Honors Winners of Competition for International PhD Students

A ceremonial award ceremony for the winners of the Best International Grant for PhD (BigPhD) competition was held at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU). The competition has been held for the third year as part of the «Priority 2030» program.

Dmitry Arseniev, Vice-Rector for International Affairs at SPbPU, delivered a welcoming speech. He congratulated the postgraduate students and emphasized the competition’s significance for developing the university’s scientific potential.

The BigPhD competition is our ambitious initiative, which we have been purposefully developing within the ‘Priority 2030’ program. You are the pride of Polytechnic University, the future not only of our university but of our entire country and the world. The progress we drive together and the communications we build will determine whether there will be more peace, happiness, and kindness in society, noted Dmitry Arseniev.

More than 30 postgraduate students from 14 countries participated in the competition. Following a rigorous evaluation, 15 laureates were selected. Two of them scored the maximum number of points and were awarded the title of «Absolute Winner»: PhD student in «Mechanics of Deformable Solids» from the Higher School of Mechanics and Control Processes, Pham Van Vinh (Vietnam), and PhD student in «Biophysics» from the Higher School of Biomedical Systems and Technologies, Anna Rogova (Kazakhstan). All 15 laureates received grants that will provide substantial support for their further scientific research.

Winning the BIG PhD is not just a grant; it is important recognition by the university of our scientific results, shared winner Pham Van Vinh. Such support provides not only resources but also confidence and serves as a powerful incentive to move forward. It is a great honor for me to study and conduct research precisely at Polytechnic University, in an environment that values the pursuit of discovery.

Dmitry Arseniev outlined long-term prospects for talented researchers at Polytech. He noted that the university is interested in having the best postgraduate graduates continue working at the university and reminded that over a hundred international research and teaching staff are already successfully working at SPbPU, many of whom are university graduates. Such competitions demonstrate SPbPU’s commitment to developing an international scientific environment and supporting young scientists who are shaping the technological future.
