During the cross‑year of Russian‑Chinese partnership in education, a delegation from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU), led by Vice‑Rector for Additional and Pre‑University Education Dmitry Tikhonov, made a large‑scale working visit to the People’s Republic of China.
In the city of Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, the polytechnic delegation took part in a ceremonial signing of a cooperation agreement between SPbPU and the Guangzhou company «Hengyun Xiantai».
Cooperation begins in several key areas: the establishment of the «Polytech — Hengyun Xiantai» Russian Language Center to prepare top Chinese applicants for studying at SPbPU, and the opening of the only Russian Language Certification Center in Southern China.
The delegation also visited Guangzhou Pedagogical University of Technology, whose leadership expressed interest in joint educational projects in electronics, cybersecurity, biotechnology, as well as the application of artificial intelligence in agriculture and medicine.
At the invitation of the China‑SCO Economic and Trade Institute, the SPbPU delegation participated in the «2026 China‑Russia Conference on the Development of Education and Industry Integration» and the presentation of the China‑Russia Information Data Platform for Talents, held in Qingdao (Shandong Province) at the SCO venue.
During the conference, working meetings were held with the leadership of leading regional universities. The SPbPU delegation held talks with representatives of Shandong University of Science and Technology, Linyi University, Ocean University of China, and Qingdao University of Technology. The parties discussed prospects for academic exchange of students and faculty, joint scientific publications, and applications for joint grants.
In the city of Chongqing, the SPbPU delegation held a working meeting with the Director of the Education Alliance at the multifunctional trade and economic platform for SCO countries. The parties discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation.
The Russian representatives learned about the Alliance’s activities, its key projects, and its objectives for developing the integration of education and economy within the SCO framework. With the Alliance’s assistance, negotiations were held with leading universities in Chongqing.
The successful holding of events in Guangzhou, Chongqing, and Qingdao has created an effective platform for further deepening educational cooperation and personnel exchange between SPbPU and its Chinese partners. The visit strengthened the university’s position as a key Russian institution for developing cooperation with China in the field of higher education.
