SPbPU hosted the VIII All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference “Pre-Master’s Training for Foreign Citizens”
The VIII All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference «Pre-Master’s Training for Foreign Citizens» (PRE-MAG-2026) was held at the Graduate School of International Educational Programs (GS IEP) of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. The event, which took place at the «Space of Nations» venue, brought together participants from 18 countries around the world — Bangladesh, Benin, Brazil, Vietnam, India, Iran, Cambodia, Cameroon, China, the DPRK, Colombia, Mali, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, El Salvador and Ecuador.
The conference was attended by representatives of six leading Russian universities: Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Patrice Lumumba Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, Kazan Federal University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Volgograd State Technical University and St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design. Such a wide geography of participants and representation of the country’s key scientific and educational centres once again confirmed the high interest in Russian education and the growing authority of Polytechnic as a centre for training foreign citizens.
The PRE-MAG conference became an important stage in the professionalisation of future master’s and postgraduate students from abroad. Its key goals were the presentation of research projects by foreign students of pre-master’s and pre-postgraduate training, the exchange of experience between universities, the development of academic competencies and the effective integration of foreign students into the Russian scientific environment.
Within the framework of the conference, the students presented their research in five key areas: construction and engineering structures, electric power engineering and control systems, information technologies and digital data processing, medicine, biotechnology and environmental management, as well as fundamental research.
Following the conference, the jury determined the best presentations.
First place was shared by three participants:
- Chen Wenyi (China, SPbPU) with the report «Electronic medical record transfer system based on XML documents»;
- Pak Chhor (DPRK, St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design) with the work «Influence of cathode current density on the quality of electrochemical chroming of gravure printing cylinders»;
- Centurion Medeiros Marco Antonio (Brazil, SPbPU) with the study «The Magnus Effect. Analytical model of dynamic lift of a rotating body in an incompressible gas».
The experts noted the high level of preparation of the participants, the depth of elaboration of the presented research and the serious interest in the chosen topics. The students demonstrated not only brilliant command of the material, but also the ability to conduct scientific discussions in Russian.
The organisers’ plans include the further development of the PRE-MAG conference, the expansion of the circle of participants and the inclusion of new thematic sections. This approach is part of the strategy for academic adaptation of future master’s and postgraduate students to the Russian scientific environment and strengthening the international authority of SPbPU as one of the leaders in the field of pre-university training for foreign citizens.
