The Sirius Federal Territory in Sochi has become a center of attraction for young astronomers from all over the world. The IV Open International Astronomical Olympiad (OWAO) was held here, bringing together schoolchildren from more than 15 countries.
The event was attended by Hussein Ali Krajani, Senior lecturer at the Department of Higher Mathematics at IP&M and Teacher of Additional Education at the Higher School of Economics of the Moscow State University of Economics. This is the third time he has joined the international jury of the Olympiad.
As part of his duties, Hussein Ali Krajani checked the work of the participants who competed in four rounds: theoretical, practical, observational and blitz tour. All tasks were performed in English.
In addition to hard work on the jury, the representative of the Polytechnic University took an active part in the event’s rich cultural program. One of the most memorable moments was the tree-planting ceremony in Sochi Olympic Park, where Hussein Ali Kra’ani planted a tree on behalf of the entire judicial corps, leaving a symbolic mark in the history of the Olympics.
«Being a part of the jury of such a large—scale Olympiad is not only a great responsibility, but also a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of the international scientific community. Seeing the burning eyes of talented guys from different parts of the world is the best reward,» Hussein Ali Krajani shared his impressions.
The participation of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University faculty as experts in such world-class events underscores the university’s high status and its contribution to identifying and supporting young talents in the field of science and education.
Dmitry Arsenyev, Vice Rector for International Affairs at SPbPU, noted the importance of this format of participation: «Such events are not only a test of knowledge, but also an important tool for building an international scientific and educational dialogue. It is a great honor for Polytech to contribute to the work of the jury of such a prestigious Olympiad.»
