SPbPU opens a new science and technology center in China
Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University opened a new scientific and technological center «Additive Technologies and Materials in Intelligent Biomedical Systems». The center was established on the basis of the China-Russia Research Institute of New Energy and Materials Technologies in Hangzhou, China.
The signing ceremony was addressed by Andrei Rudskoi, Rector of SPbPU, Chairman of the St. Petersburg Branch of the RAS and winner of the Medal of International Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the PRC, and Wang Qingsheng, Director of the China-Russia Institute of New Materials, SPbPU alumnus. Among the guests were Anatoly Popovich, Director of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Transportation of SPbPU, and Guo Yunwei, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Administrative Committee of the Future Technology Park. They were welcomed by SPbPU students who have already become the first team members of the new center.
The center’s key research areas cover cutting-edge areas of biomedicine:
- Neural feedbackcontrolled prostheses that can restore people’s lost capabilities
- Intelligent exoskeletons that facilitate movement and restore lost functions
- Tissue and organ bioprinting technologies that harness the potential of stem cells to restore health
- Biomimetic materials that adapt to their environment and organic biomaterials modeled after nature.
The Center is already working on creating software for biomedical systems using artificial intelligence and developing methods for training specialists in high-tech fields of science. The Center’s participants are confident that their work will soon become the pride of the scientific community and bring inspiration to the next generation of engineers and researchers.
The new scientific and technological center will become a cradle of advanced solutions in the field of bioelectronics and additive technologies in medicine, integration of smart materials into biological systems. Its mission is to improve the quality of life, give hope and health to people in Russia and China. At the intersection of industry, science and innovation, the foundations of a new stage of our cooperation are being laid
, — said Andrei Rudskoi, Rector of SPbPU.
