SPbPU Representative Office in Shanghai celebrates its 10th anniversary
In 2026, ten years have passed since the opening of the Representative Office of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University in Shanghai. Over this time, the enrollment of Chinese students has grown many times over. While in 2016 work with Chinese applicants was only beginning, today more than 2,000 citizens of the PRC are studying at SPbPU. Following the results of the 2026 admissions campaign, 329 Chinese citizens have already been enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s and postgraduate programs, with about 190 more people awaiting enrollment. The most in-demand fields are IT, infocommunications, energy and mechanical engineering.
In September 2026, the SPbPU Representative Office in Shanghai took part in the Open Day of leading foreign universities for graduates of Tsinghua University. Representatives of Polytechnic University spoke about master’s and postgraduate programs, scientific research, international projects and study opportunities for Chinese students. Special attention was given to aerospace engineering, electronics and telecommunications, as well as interdisciplinary engineering fields: artificial intelligence in engineering, materials science for aerospace, biomedical engineering and robotics.
Chinese graduates also received information about the admissions procedure, requirements for language proficiency in Russian and English, and scholarship opportunities, including quotas from the Government of the Russian Federation, SPbPU grants and scholarships for participants in joint scientific projects. Representatives of the university spoke about scientific laboratories and research centers where students participate in developments from their first year, as well as about living conditions, campus infrastructure and support for international students. The greatest interest was aroused by internships at high-tech companies, participation in joint Russian-Chinese grants and employment opportunities after graduation.
The work of the representative office is not limited to attracting students. It helps SPbPU develop cooperation with Chinese universities and companies and find directions for joint scientific and technological projects.
Staff members of the SPbPU Representative Office took part in the «T2+20» conference on international technological and personnel cooperation in Nanjing. The conference was organized by the Cross-Border Technology Transfer Center at the Center for Promoting the Development of New Productive Forces of Jiangsu Province. As part of the event, negotiations were held on scientific and technological areas.
At a meeting with the Nanjing University of Science and Technology and the company Jiangsu Zhidao Engineering Technologies Co., Ltd., the SPbPU representatives discussed opportunities for cooperation in the field of systems digital engineering and the use of the CML-Bench digital twin platform. With the Research Institute of Medical Equipment at Southeast University in Suzhou, they discussed an SPbPU project — a platform for multimodal data analysis based on artificial intelligence. With the Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, they considered areas of cooperation in the field of additive manufacturing, issues of the creation and use of aluminum-based foam composites, as well as the technology of spherical glass lens molding.
In its anniversary year, SPbPU plans to develop networked educational programs, scientific cooperation and expand the university’s activities in the Asia-Pacific region. The Representative Office in Shanghai will continue to ensure interaction between students, scientists and business partners interested in joint projects between Russia and China.
