This year saw the second graduation of the international master’s degree program «Emergency Preparedness and Response», available exclusively at Polytechnic University. This is a unique opportunity for Polytechnic University graduates to become some of the first specialists in this field at the global level.

Graduates of the International Master's Program "Emergency Preparedness and Response"

Classes are taught not only by our teachers, but also by experts from the Technical Academy and Rosatom’s emergency technical center. Master’s degree students undergo internship at the emergency technical center, which is equipped with modern equipment and simulators for emergency rescue operations in radiation accidents. Using computer simulators, students learn to search for and neutralize radioactive sources.

This year’s graduates of the Emergency Preparedness and Response program, Thamer Alhaqbani Mesfer from Saudi Arabia and Faly Dieye from Senegal, told why they chose Polytechnic University.

At the Institute of Nuclear and Applied Technologies, where I studied, Rosatom awarded seven scholarships in nuclear technology under the Russia-Senegal government quota. I was one of the lucky ones who got the opportunity to go to St. Petersburg Polytechnic University to study emergency preparedness and response in the master’s degree program, shared Faly Dieye. In Russia, I was impressed by the culture, history and hospitable people. Polytechnic University is one of the leading technical universities in the country that offers quality education and trains highly qualified personnel. In addition, it is one of the most international universities in Russia, which makes it easier for foreign students to integrate into the educational process. Polytechnic University’s teachers are true professionals in their field. They support and care about the success of their students. Thanks to their efforts, we have become specialists capable of nuclear and radiation emergency preparedness and effective response to potential threats.

I learned about the Emergency Preparedness and Response program from an announcement by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). It complies with IAEA safety standards. Specialists trained under this program work in key structural units that ensure safety at nuclear power plants and other nuclear and radiological facilities, said Thamer Alhaqbani Mesfer. At Polytechnic University, the first place I visited was the Main Building. I was fascinated by the grandeur and beauty of the campus, thinking about the fact that once students of this university were outstanding scientists whose works are known all over the world. Education opens up new prospects for career development. Polytechnic University teachers play an important role. They are passionate about their work, their kindness and responsiveness create comfortable conditions for learning and development.
