SPbPU to Join New Russian-Chinese Association
Within the framework of the XIII International Forum for Technological Development «Technoprom-2026,» the first international forum «Russia. Novosibirsk. China» was held. The event was dedicated to cooperation between the two countries in the fields of education, business, science, and innovation.
A delegation from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University took part in the forum. Polytechnic was represented by Tatiana Sytnikova, Deputy Head of the International Education Office, and Olga Emelyanova, Head of the Department of International Educational Programs and Academic Mobility.
The most important topic of the Russian-Chinese forum was the establishment of the Association of Joint Educational Organizations of Universities of Russia and China. The main goal of the new structure is to unite the efforts of universities from the two countries in the joint training of highly qualified personnel and to develop coordinated approaches to the implementation of joint educational programs.
In her speech, Olga Emelyanova emphasized the importance of uniting the efforts of universities from the two countries: The creation of the association is a long-overdue and timely step, given how rapidly educational cooperation between Russia and China is developing. With around 20 joint programs and 2 joint institutes with Chinese universities, SPbPU is one of the leaders in Russia in this area. Among the issues that universities — members of the Association should focus on first and foremost, our university sees the following: the development of the regulatory framework, quality control of implemented joint programs, and the unification of approaches to the development and administrative support of programs. Polytechnic, which has extensive experience in this field, is ready to actively engage in the work and share its experience with Russian and Chinese partners.
SPbPU possesses unique experience in this field, which the university is ready to share with the new association. Today, Polytechnic is successfully implementing two joint institutes with Chinese partners: the Joint Engineering Institute with Jiangsu Normal University — the first joint institute between Russian and Chinese universities, and the Joint Polytechnic Institute with Xi’an Technological University (over three years, the project has become one of the largest Russian-Chinese projects in engineering education, with the number of students in joint programs approaching 1,000).
In addition, since 2016, the SPbPU Representative Office has been successfully operating in Shanghai — the first official representative office of a Russian university in China. Over the decade, it has become a key bridge connecting science, education, and industry between the two countries; thanks to its work, the number of Chinese students at SPbPU today exceeds 2,000.
These competencies — experience in building joint institutes, developing educational standards, and long‑term presence in China — make SPbPU’s entry into the Association not just a formal step, but a strategically important contribution to its development. The university delegation expressed its readiness not only to join the new structure but also to share the developed models that will help standardize approaches and accelerate the implementation of joint programs for all members of the Association.
Over the three days of the «Technoprom-2026» forum, its events brought together over 18,000 in‑person and more than 688,000 online participants from 42 countries. The program included 164 events with participants from 76 regions.
