The partnership between Polytechnic University and Satbayev University reaches a new level

Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and Kazakhstan’s leading national research university Satbayev University are expanding cooperation. In the course of online negotiations held on March 15, an agreement was reached to sign a comprehensive cooperation agreement and elaborate a detailed roadmap. Alibek SHOKPAROV, Member of the Managment Board, Vice-Rector in Charge of Research and International Affairs, and the staff of the International Cooperation Department participated in the negotiations on behalf of Satbayev University. Polytechnic University was represented by the Vice-Rector for International Affairs Professor Dmitry ARSENIEV and the staff of the international office.

Welcoming the attendees, Dmitry ARSENIEV emphasized that attention to scientific and technological growth and development of human potential of Russia and Kazakhstan is paid at the highest government level. Kazakhstan is a close, friendly country to us, with a huge research and educational potential. We hope that the research, educational and friendly ties between the representatives of the two universities will have a positive impact not only on our joint activities, but also on the scientific and technological development of our states, said the Vice Rector for International Affairs of SPbPU.

Vice-Rector in Charge of Research and International Affairs Alibek SHOKPAROV supported the initiative to further develop the partnership and expressed the hope that in the near future the parties will start working together. During the talks they found points of mutual interest for scientific cooperation, such as artificial intelligence and robotics, energy, new and additive materials, digital manufacturing, construction and many others. SPbPU and Satbayev University are open to joint research activities, including external support under bilateral programs of scientific foundations of the two countries. There is mutual interest in the possibility of developing double degree programs and joint network programs, mutual invitation of lecturers and researchers, development of academic mobility of teachers and students, including the national scholarship programs. As a next step, on the basis of such network programs joint educational structures may be created and a branch of SPbPU in Almaty may be opened on the basis of Satbayev University.

At the end of the negotiations, the parties agreed to sign a comprehensive agreement on cooperation and to work out a detailed roadmap. In the near future, a number of thematic meetings at the level of institutes in areas of mutual scientific interest are scheduled for representatives of SPbPU and Satbayev University. Researchers of the Institute of Computer Science and Technology, Institute of Energy, Institute of Engineering, Materials and Transport, Institute of Civil Engineering and Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies will participate in the talks in the format of videoconference on behalf of Polytechnic University. In addition, in the near future, an official delegation of Satbayev University, headed by Rector Meiram BEGENTAYEV, will pay a visit Polytechnic University, during which the heads of universities will sign a cooperation agreement.
