The potential is not exhausted: prospects for cooperation between SPbPU and Indian universities

27 August 2024 International activities 140

At the end of August, Elena Remizova, the new head of the Russian House in New Delhi, visited SPbPU. She got acquainted with the university, areas of training and international activities. Polytechnic cooperates with twelve Indian universities, including the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and Madras — SPbPU’s strategic partner.

In April, a delegation from Polytechnic participated in the India-Russia Education Summit, where cooperation agreements were signed, negotiations were held with Indian companies and organizations, and preparations for the placement of Polytechnic’s innovative courses in English on Indian educational platforms began soon. After the summit, Aman Mittal, Vice-President of the largest private university in this country — Lovely Professional University, paid a business visit to SPbPU, and now IIME&T employees are actively working with this university. Cooperation with other Indian universities and organizations is also developing.

As noted by Vladimir Khizhnyak, Head of International Cooperation Department, and Evgeniya Satalkina, Head of International Education Office, the potential for cooperation with universities, companies and scientific organizations in India is far from being exhausted. Polytechnic University regularly participates in educational exhibitions in different Indian cities, actively promotes itself through online resources, but the number of Indian students at Polytechnic University remains unchanged.

The meeting discussed the recruitment situation of Indian students

At the meeting they discussed steps to improve the situation with the enrollment of Indian students. The head of the Russian House in New Delhi believes that a representative office of Polytechnic University should be opened in this country, similar to the SPbPU representative office in Shanghai, and Russian language schools should be established in different cities of India. The attitude towards Russia in India remains generally good. The representatives of SPbPU proposed at the meeting to create joint educational programs with Indian universities, to attract Indian companies to scientific and technical cooperation, to organize transfer of Polytechnic University’s innovative developments, and for Indian partners to participate in the Economic Congress — 6th International Municipal Forum BRICS+, which is to be held in November in St. Petersburg.

Polytechnic University made a very good impression on me, it is a truly world-class university, said Elena Remizova. I think our joint work will help to attract more talented Indian students to your wonderful university. Nowadays the Indian economy is actively developing and the country needs a lot of engineers and technical specialists. We expect a significant increase in the number of applicants, including those to foreign universities. The Russian House in New Delhi is ready to provide a platform for the placement of information materials of the Polytechnic University, as well as to work together in all other areas.
