Third Season — A New Level: Students from Two Slavic Universities Begin Their Studies at SPbPU

Students from the Slavic Universities have begun their studies at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. This year, the programme, which has been implemented for the third year in a row, has expanded its geography: for the first time, students from the Belarusian-Russian University (BRU) have joined the traditional participants from the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University named after the first President of the Russian Federation, B.N. Yeltsin (KRSU). In total, in the autumn semester of the 2026/2027 academic year, 38 students from KRSU and 7 students from BRU have begun their studies.

Previously, in 2024 and 2025, only KRSU students participated in the programme — over two years, 80 people completed their studies at SPbPU. The current, third intake marks a new stage in the development of inter-university cooperation: the involvement of the Belarusian university makes the project truly integration-oriented within the framework of the Union State.

The ceremonial welcome was the first official event for the arriving students. The guests were addressed by Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department Nikita Golovin and Deputy Head of the Department of International Educational Programmes and Academic Mobility Anna Kuznetsova.

The third year of implementing network interaction between SPbPU and the Slavic Universities marks a new stage: for the first time, students from Kyrgyzstan have been joined by young people from the Belarusian-Russian University. For us, this is not merely an expansion of geography, but the formation of a truly trilateral academic interaction. We see how the idea of integration is taking on real shape — in shared classrooms and laboratories. I am confident that studying together will allow you not only to master advanced competencies, but also to build strong interpersonal and professional contacts that will remain with you for life, Nikita Golovin welcomed the participants.

During the meeting, the students were told about the current development of the university, its leading research projects and prospects for international students. A campus tour and a visit to the SPbPU History Museum were organised for the guests.

Participation in the academic mobility programme will allow students to form and develop professional competencies, broaden their educational experience and become acquainted with new approaches to learning. We are confident that the implementation of such programmes will contribute to the further development of our international academic cooperation, the strengthening of already established inter-university ties and the expansion of opportunities for joint educational activities, noted Anna Kuznetsova.

The studies of students from KRSU and BRU will be conducted in the following bachelor’s degree programmes: «Industrial and Civil Construction,» «Design of the Architectural Environment,» «Technosphere Safety,» «Technology for the Development and Maintenance of a Quality Software Product,» «Mobile Communication Systems,» «Integral Electronics and Nanoelectronics,» as well as in the master’s degree programme «Design and Calculation of Building Structures, Buildings and Facilities.»

As in previous years, the students will be integrated into the university’s standard academic groups together with Russian students. They will have to master the same disciplines as their fellow students at home, which will ensure a seamless transition and the absence of academic debts upon returning to their universities. At the end of the semester, all programme participants will be issued documents with learning results in a points-based system, which will allow the credits earned to be correctly transferred to KRSU and BRU.

Our motivation for studying at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University was the desire for in-depth study of languages and the cultural values of St. Petersburg. And reality exceeded our expectations: the teachers are professionals who engage in discussions and maintain a dialogue with students. The practice-oriented approach proved especially valuable for us: many classes are held in the form of seminars and case studies. What also appeals to us is the step-by-step accessibility from the dormitory to the academic building, shared Ksenia Skorokhodova, a student at BRU.

The supervisors of the educational process from SPbPU will be representatives of the relevant institutes: the Institute of Humanities, the Institute of Civil Engineering, the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications, as well as the Higher School of Software Engineering. Information was also presented to the students about the opportunities of the university’s sports complex, where sections in volleyball, basketball, football, swimming, boxing and other sports are available.

The trip from Bishkek to St. Petersburg Polytechnic University left vivid impressions. We were especially struck by the scale of the university, its modern infrastructure and the atmosphere in which education, technology and scientific research are combined. Participation in the network programme with SPbPU is an interesting experience and an opportunity to see how the educational process is organised at one of the leading technical universities in Russia, said Ulan Azamatov, a student at KRSU

The admission of students from KRSU and BRU has become another step in the development of the «Slavic Universities» project, and the expansion of the participants’ composition confirms the demand for academic exchanges between universities in Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Belarus.
