Master’s degree holders from Xi’an have been trained at SPbPU

Master’s degree holders from Xi’an Technological University were trained at the Institute of Machinery, Materials, and Transport (IMM&T) as part of the TU Xi’an — SPbPU international internship center program. Twelve people studied advanced material processing technologies online, demonstrating a high level of training. The training took place in an intensive week-long online format. Students from the Xi’an Technological University studied together with foreign students from the first year of the SPbPU Master’s degree program «New Materials and Additive Technologies». Along with the lecture materials, they studied the processes of electric arc wire growing and friction stir welding of aluminum alloys. The program was organized and conducted by the staff of the Laboratory of Lightweight Materials and Structures of IMM&T.

XATU-SPbPU: Joint Forum on New Materials and Technologies

SPbPU and Xi’an Technological University held a joint Xi’an -SPbPU Forum on New Materials and New Forming Technology. The event was initiated by the Xi’an Institute of Materials and Chemical Engineering. Experts and scientists in the field of materials science and processing technologies from Polytechnic University, University of Jena (Germany), Central South University (Changsha, China), and many others participated in the forum. The speakers discussed the developments in the field of advanced technologies in recent years, existing problems, and options for their solutions. Three speeches from SPbPU were made by three participants: Anton NAUMOV, associate professor at the Materials Research and Modeling Academic Center at SPbPU on friction welding of aluminum alloys with stirring, Maxim MAKSIMOV, associate professor at the Higher School of Physics and Material Technologies, IMM&T, SPbPU, on atomic layer deposition of metal oxides for solid batteries and Dmitry KURUSHKIN, a PhD student of IMM&T, on additive manufacturing of wire and arc.

New areas of cooperation with Shanghai Engineering University

Cooperation between SPbPU and  Shanghai University Of Engineering Science began in 2016. As part of the signed agreement, teachers from Polytechnic University gave lectures to Chinese students. Currently, the Russian and Chinese universities are negotiating the creation of a joint educational program in the field of engineering technology.

International Polytechnic Winter School — success among Chinese students

International Polytechnic Winter School — 2022, which took place in SPbPU online, was very popular among Chinese students. In total, more than 300 students from China took part in its programs. The most popular among the Chinese audience were Cross-cultural School on Entrepreneurship and Marketing and Supply Chain Strategy Development and Deployment, organized by the Higher School of Technology Entrepreneurship of the Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, as well as the «Machine Learning: Theory and Application» program. As part of the classes, the Chinese students listened to lectures, performed practical assignments, and significantly improved their English.

New negotiations with potential partners

A series of talks were held by the staff of the SPbPU Shanghai representative office with potential partners. Thus, together with the Shanghai University Of Electric Power , the parties discussed the possibilities of launching SPbPU preparatory courses on the basis of the Chinese university. Possibilities of creating an English-language Master’s degree program in safety engineering were discussed with Beijing Prepare Education. Negotiations with the Shanghai University Of Electric Power  were also a success. The parties discussed areas of cooperation in the field of education, which could be the beginning of joint work between the universities. Shanghai University Of Electric Power was founded in 1951 and specializes in two key areas — electronics and power engineering. As a result of negotiations, the participants agreed on the first steps in the development of cooperation: they will be joint work on a program of inclusive education for Chinese students in the field of energy and info-communication technologies.

Russian and foreign colleagues discussed the possibilities of joint participation in the projects of the BRICS Framework Network Program

Participation in international BRICS projects

SPbPU Shanghai continues to actively search for partners to participate in international projects of the BRICS Networking Framework Program (STI BRICS). In January, a meeting was held with Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications in which the parties agreed to submit a joint application to participate in BRICS projects. The project implementation plan and the list of materials to be prepared by both sides are currently being discussed.

Polytechnic University plans to submit another application to the BRICS competition together with the Shanghai University of Science and Technology, the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (India), and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). The topic the participants are discussing is big data modeling and analytics for advanced precision medicine and public health.
