On Victory Day, Polytechnic University screened a film about the heroism of a family from Tashkent
The screening of the Uzbek film ‘You Are Not an Orphan’ about the heroic feat of a Tashkent family during the Great Patriotic War took place in the ‘Semenov’ hall of the Technopolis of Polytechnic University. The event, dedicated to the upcoming Victory Day, was held with the support of the Consulate General of the Republic of Uzbekistan and brought together teachers, staff, and students of SPbPU, as well as invited guests from other educational institutions.
Today’s evening is special. We have gathered not just for a film screening, but for an encounter with a very deep and honest story — the film ‘You Are Not an Orphan. ’ This is a film based on a real human feat: an Uzbek family took in and raised fifteen children of different nationalities who had been evacuated to Tashkent during the war. This is not so much a film about war as it is about humanity. About the ability to remain human in the most difficult times. About how compassion, warmth, and responsibility know neither borders nor nationalities,
emphasized Dmitry Arseniev, Vice-Rector for International Affairs of SPbPU, in his welcoming speech.
He separately expressed gratitude to the Consulate General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in St. Petersburg for its constant support of international initiatives. The Consulate was represented at the film screening by Consul Kabul Alimov and Assistant Consul Abdulaziz Muinjonev. In addition, the Uzbek community of St. Petersburg was represented by international students: Feruza Rakhimova from St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design, Asadbek Abdullaev and Dilnoza Adilova from Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia.
«You Are Not an Orphan» (1962) is a Soviet dramatic film narrative from the Uzbekfilm studio, based on real events of the Great Patriotic War. The film tells of the harsh wartime years when trains carrying evacuated children from all over the country arrived in Tashkent.
I am very glad that so many people have gathered to watch this film. I can say that this film stands alongside such films as ‘The Fate of a Man,’ ‘Ballad of a Soldier,’ and ‘A Father’s Soldier.’ The film ‘You Are Not an Orphan’ cannot be watched calmly. One should try to empathize with the role of each child whose story is told. After watching this film, everyone takes away something of their own. This film allows us to see the world and those terrible events through different eyes,
noted Consul Kabul Alimov.
The film «You Are Not an Orphan» left no viewer indifferent. The organizers confirmed their intention to make such events a tradition.
