The innovative development «Navigation system for surgery based on augmented reality technologies» of the scientific team led by Vladimir Ivanov, Professor of the Higher School of Theoretical Mechanics and Mathematical Physics of the Institute of Physics and Mechanics, was presented in medical centers in India.

SPbPU scientists presented their development to neurosurgeons in India

Ildar Mamaev and Vladimir Cherniavsky, members of the research team, visited eight major Indian medical centers, including: Kalalgner Super Specialty Hospital Chennai, MIOT Hospital Chennai Technical specialist, CMC Rainpet, Kauvery Kovilambakkam Chennai, etc. St. Petersburg scientists demonstrated to the leading Indian neurosurgeons of Chennai and Hyderabad the possibilities of working with hologram, video recordings of real surgeries.

The phantom of the head showed fast construction of volumetric reconstruction and registration of the patient by four points with a pointer; then superimposition of volumetric reconstruction and segmented 3D-model; construction of slices at different angles, measurement of distance to a given element of 3D-model and output of orthogonal slices on virtual screens.

The augmented reality technology developed by us, which optimizes surgical processes, interested Indian surgeons, who expressed their desire to perform the first operations using this unique navigation system, said project manager Vladimir Ivanov.

According to Vladimir, the development of international relations is very active, including with the support of the Skolkovo Foundation. The first full-scale surgical operations in India are scheduled for this spring.
