The Polytech universe is expanding: the sixth satellite of the Polytech Universe group has been launched

The Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications of SPbPU and the Special Technology Center (STC) launched a jointly manufactured 16U CubeSat nanosatellite from the Vostochny cosmodrome. It became the sixth in the space constellation of the Polytech Universe.

PU-6 was launched into orbit by a Soyuz 2.1b launch vehicle along with the Aist-2T satellites No. 1 and No. 2 and fifty other spacecraft for various purposes.

The new CubeSat is designed to solve scientific and applied problems in the field of radio monitoring, geolocation and inter-satellite communications. Its functionality includes:

  • measuring the level of electromagnetic radiation in various frequency ranges;
  • Receiving and accumulating AIS (Automatic identification system) messages;
  • transfer of data to the control center for processing and analysis;
  • experimental verification of the operability of a high-speed inter-satellite radio communication system.
The CubeSat 16 U satellite is designed to solve applied problems in the field of radio frequency monitoring, geolocation, and advanced inter-satellite communication technologies.

The data obtained from the satellite is also planned to be used in the educational process of the university, which will give students the opportunity to better learn the specifics of space missions.
