Greetings from Rector Andrei Rudskoi of SPbPU on Victory Day

6 May 2022 409

Dear polytechnics! I warmly congratulate you on the 77th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. So many decades have passed since those times, full of sorrow, suffering and great exploits. More than one postwar generation has grown up. But the memory of the day of May 9, 1945, which gave the glad tidings of the long-awaited peace, will forever remain in our hearts. This victory is a defining moment in our country’s history, and it revealed to the world the power and strength of the Russian spirit.

The road to the Great Victory was long and difficult. Polytechnic students were in session when the news broke that our country was attacked by the enemy. And many Polytechnic students did not hesitate to volunteer at the front. May 9th is a special holiday for our University, as more than three thousand students and employees honorably fulfilled their duty to their homeland and their people.

The Great Patriotic War united our multinational people even more. People selflessly fought with the enemy, worked in the rear and dealt a crushing blow to the aggressor, brought peace to our land.

We pay our deepest respect and gratitude to the frontline soldiers and home front workers. To commemorate the heroic deeds of our people, the «Immortal Regiment» campaign is held annually. Dear veterans, your courage and bravery are unparalleled! We remember the feat of your generation and thank you. I wish you good health and long life.

And we would like to wish you fortitude, perseverance in overcoming difficulties and illnesses, confidence in the future and faith in your country. Happy Great Victory!

Rector of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, RAS Academician Andrei Rudskoi
