Andrei Rudskoi, Rector of SPbPU, spoke at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum
On the third day of the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum, a meeting of Gazprom’s Scientific and Educational Interuniversity Council was held with the participation of the corporation’s executives and its partner universities. The Polytechnic University was represented by Andrei Rudskoi, Rector of SPbPU and Chairman of the St. Petersburg Branch of the RAS, Yury Fomin, Vice-Rector for Research, Lyudmila Pankova, Vice-Rector for Academic affairs, Dmitry Tikhonov, Vice-Rector for Additional and Pre-University Education, Irina Rudskaya, Director of the Gazprom Neft Scientific and Educational Center for Information Technologies and Business Analysis, and Dmitry Karpov, Scientific Secretary of Gazprom Neft.
Sergey Khomyakov, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, opening the discussion, outlined the key areas of joint activities with universities: education of the younger generation, professional orientation and vocational training, training of qualified personnel, and research and development.
Andrei Rudskoi, Rector of SPbPU and Chairman of the St. Petersburg Branch of the RAS, made a report at the meeting. He reminded that in 2024, important legislative normative acts were signed at the federal level, regulating strategic guidelines, national goals and priority directions of Russia’s scientific and technological development, and noted that almost every such document talks about close interaction between university and academic communities and industrial partners.
Concluding his speech, Andrei Rudskoi made several proposals to strengthen the interaction between SPbPU and Gazprom.
Undoubtedly, the existing forms of interaction between SPbPU and Gazprom are effective, but they need to be expanded and scaled up
, said the Rector of SPbPU. One of the forms of science and production integration could be the creation of research and production associations (RPAs), whose participants could be universities and high-tech industrial companies. In the near future it is planned to launch a federal pilot project for the creation of NGOs, and Polytechnic University is ready to join this experiment
.
Andrei Rudskoi also proposed to create an association of Gazprom’s core universities and establish a joint journal.
Sergey Tsivilev, Minister of Energy of Russia, and Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Board of PAO Gazprom, took time out of their schedules to attend the meeting of the Interuniversity Council and thank its participants for their cooperation.
At the Council meeting, speaking about cooperation between SPbPU and Gazprom in higher education, Andrei Rudskoi cited the example of two VR-based training systems developed this year.
The «Maintenance and Repair of Piston Compressor and Auxiliary Equipment of Underground Gas Storage Systems» is a virtual model of the real-life Nevskaya station and is designed to study the main actions in the maintenance and operation of compressor equipment used at underground gas storage facilities.
According to Vasily Semyonovsky, another virtual model of an automatic gas-filling compressor station for methane refueling of passenger cars and trucks is in a state of 90% readiness.
This year Polytechnic University and the St. Petersburg Branch of the RAS presented a joint mount at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum. Among the developments of RAS institutes: unmanned aerial vehicles «Raven» and «Strizh» of the St. Petersburg Federal Research Center (FIC RAS), small-size quadrupole mass spectrometer MS7-200 for analyzing the composition of gas mixtures at atmospheric pressure of the Institute of Analytical Instrumentation of the RAS and others.
Traditionally, the Museum of SPbPU History also takes part in the exhibition. This year, the museum’s employees familiarize guests with the Polytechnic Gas Plant, which produced luminous gas for laboratories. Combustible gas was produced by dry distillation of coal at a temperature of 1000°C.
