New partners and joint projects: SPbPU at the international forum in Xi'an

The international forum of the Silk Road Alliance of Architecture and Technology Universities (SRIAATU) was held in Xi’an, China. The Alliance was established in October 2023 under the chairmanship of Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology to promote global architecture, technological innovation and sustainable infrastructure for living. It is composed of 55 leading universities from 26 countries specializing in architecture and construction. It is the most important platform for bringing together talented engineers and architects to implement joint scientific and educational projects and cultural exchange.

The forum was an important step in promoting the concept of «green» architecture, based on the integration of education, science and industry in the field of architectural design and construction technologies. The event included a meeting of the Alliance Council, a Presidential Forum and a series of conferences devoted to modern challenges and development prospects in the field of architecture and construction. Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University has been a member of the Alliance since its foundation and regularly participates in its events.

The SPbPU delegation visited the College of Architecture of Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT), where, as a result of constructive negotiations, agreements were reached on holding a joint educational workshop with the participation of professors from both universities. From the XAUAT side, Dean of the College of Architecture Lei Jendong, Deputy Dean Dan Yutian, Coordinator of Cooperation with Russian Universities Wu Guangyu and lecturer Tong Qingnan participated in the negotiations.

In addition, SPbPU representatives took part in the international conference on architecture, which was attended by more than one hundred architects from leading universities around the world.

Participation in the forum allowed to expand the geography of partner cooperation of the Institute of Civil Engineering: preliminary agreements on development of cooperation with such universities as Bangkok King Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), Petronas University of Technology (Malaysia), Gadjah Mada University (Indonesia), Osh Technological University (Kyrgyzstan), Tashkent State Transport University (Uzbekistan) and Moratuwa University (Sri Lanka) were reached.

It is extremely important for us to participate in the Silk Road Alliance of Architectural and Technological Universities, as it is one of the largest alliances in the field of architecture and construction. Participation in the forum allowed us to establish new partnerships with leading universities, which creates a basis for the development of student and teacher exchanges, as well as the realization of joint educational and scientific projects, said the director of the Institute of Civil Engineering Marina Petrochenko.
