SPbPU Institute of Civil Engineering expands cooperation with China
At the end of March, the delegation of the Institute of Civil Engineering visited four universities of the People’s Republic of China at the invitation of the Chinese side. The Russian delegation consisted of Marina Petrochenko, director of the Institute, Mikhail Romanov, deputy director for international activities, and Ksenia Strelets, director of the Center for Additional Professional Programs.

The Polytechnic visited Chang’an University in Xi’an. An official ceremony of signing a cooperation agreement between SPbPU and Chang’an University was held there. As a result of the negotiations, agreements were reached on the organization of academic mobility programs for students in the fields of «Water Resources Management», «Environmental Safety» and «Civil Engineering». They also discussed initiatives to hold guest lectures by professors and to develop joint programs of additional professional education with the possibility of internships at construction sites in China.

One of the key events was the open lectures given by Ksenia Strelets and Mikhail Romanov, professors of the Institute of Civil Engineering, for graduate students of Chang’an University. Professors of the ICE and the School of Water Resources Management and Environmental Protection of Chang’an University developed a joint online course «Environmental Impact Assessment».

The SPbPU delegation also visited the partner Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology. Its representatives conducted a tour for SPbPU colleagues through the laboratories, including a visit to the Research Center of the Institute of Civil Engineering. Unique installations and test benches for evaluating seismic effects on the structures of buildings and structures are presented there. In addition, the Russians visited the laboratory for purification of contaminated water.
During the talks with Weng Chumei, director of International Services, Zhao Jingju, deputy director, and Weng Xiang, responsible for interaction with CIS countries, agreements were reached to develop a roadmap for interaction between the two universities. It will include academic mobility of students, joint research works, summer and winter schools.

The next point for visiting the partner universities was the city of Nanjing. The SPbPU delegation visited Nanjing University of Science and Technology, where it held talks with representatives of international services and professors from the departments of Construction and Energy. The Polytechnic presented key scientific developments and projects in the field of modeling highways, bridges and tunnels, indoor climate assessment, environmental impact and technosphere safety. Linlin Gu, director of the Institute of Civil Engineering, spoke about the educational programs and research activities of the department.

A significant event for the development of international relations in the field of water resources management and hydropower was the visit to the College of Environmental science and Water Resources of Hohai University.
At the meeting, agreements were reached to prepare a cooperation agreement between SPbPU and Hohai University, to hold guest lectures and to implement joint research projects in the field of water resources management, environmental protection and hydropower.
