Medalists of the Natural Science Lyceum Choose the Polytechnic University
Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University offers a wide range of educational services: from secondary education up to training programs. More than 20 years ago the Polytechnic University together with the Committee for Education of St. Petersburg City Administration established the Natural Science Lyceum, which is at present a structural subdivision of the Polytechnic University, in order to prepare school students to study at university and help them adapt to the system of higher education.
Studying at the Lyceum with an advanced course of Mathematics, Physics and IT is very similar to studying at university: the lessons last for 90 minutes; the academic year is divided into two semesters, each one finishing with an exam session. Students have to pass Mathematics and Physics exam in order to be able to continue their studies.
This year marked the 19th graduation ceremony of the Natural Science Lyceum, which by tradition was held at the White Hall of the Polytechnic University. It is worth mentioning that it was not the first visit of the school students to the Polytechnic University. To help students to choose their future careers the administration of the Lyceum organizes regular meetings with the representatives of different institutes of the Polytechnic University, and outings to the laboratories and research centers of the university.
“Students of the Lyceum easily adapt to the new system of education at university, since our main task is to help them get ready for student life”, explained R.A. Baibikov, Director of the Natural Science Lyceum. “Our students receive a high-quality modern education, that is why most our graduates have no difficulty entering the Polytechnic University, as well as other universities”.
