PolyUnion: an ecosystem of friendship

Starting from this academic year, the life of international students will become even more comfortable, interesting and rich. Three student organizations TutorForces, the Council of SPbPU Compatriots and Interclub have joined together to create the PolyUnion ecosystem.

All communities are united within PolyUnion by a common mission and values, but each has its own characteristics and challenges. TutorForces is the most experienced team and the coordinating link of the whole ecosystem. Throughout the academic year, tutors are engaged in organizing events, festivals, excursions, concerts, evenings and clubs to immerse international students in the world and Russian rich history, culture and language.

Together with foreign friends, tutors regularly organize language clubs: English, Chinese, Spanish, Russian and others. Improving the level of language and knowledge about different cultures is a skill that a modern successful person can’t do without.

Every year the tutor school is organized, which can be attended by every SPbPU student and become a real mentor for our foreign guests. The training traditionally ends with a joint trip to the country base in Kholomki.

It is not the first year that tutors in cooperation with adapters have been implementing a joint project Buddy-program. The guys meet future students of Polytechnic from other countries, help them to draw up documents, move into the dormitory, etc. The most responsible students are engaged by SPbPU international services to accompany foreign delegations and participate in international forums.

The leaders of the Council of Compatriotic Communities represent the interests of students from their countries at meetings with the university administration and other events, help solve problems and keep in constant touch with their fellow countrymen. Getting acquainted with students from Russia is an amazing experience for every international student, but the opportunity to communicate with compatriots is no less valuable for them.

Interclub is a place of meetings, communication and creativity, the main platform of the ecosystem where impressions are born. Drum kits, electric guitars and synthesizers attract musicians, while the projector and sound equipment attract fans of movies and special interest evenings. Interclub is always waiting for guests!

PolyUnion is not just a student community, it is a new concept and, if you will, a philosophy of extracurricular work with foreign students at Polytechnic, which should unite students, faculty, and university administration for the benefit of international cooperation, commented Pavel Nedelko, Assistant Vice-Rector of Polytechnic University.

PolyUnion is always open to those who share the values of intercultural respect and creation. There is a place for everyone: adaptation, culture and art, sports, career guidance and career, science and education (forums, competitions, scientific conferences), work with alumni, comfortable environment and safety, self-governance and leadership. PolyUnion is a platform for international cooperation, finding like-minded people from different corners of the world, and expressing oneself in one’s favorite business — this is all about PolyUnion.
