SPbPU celebrated the Eastern New Year

The Oriental New Year — the year of the Green Wooden Snake — was celebrated in the Polytechnic Tower. The main organizer of the event was the Humanities Institute together with the Graduate School of International Educational Programs. The concert program included representatives of different institutes of Polytechnic and St. Petersburg universities.

The Polytechnic celebrated the Eastern New Year

This year the celebration was held for the first time in the Center for Youth Trajectories, in the Polytechnic Tower.

Natalia Chicherina, Director of the Institute of Humanities, and Pavel Nedelko, Assistant Vice-Rector, gave welcoming speeches.

The Polytechnic spoke about the cultural peculiarities of their countries

The Polytechnic spoke about the cultural peculiarities of their countries and held an interactive contest with souvenirs for the participants. Li Junying, a student of the Graduate School of Linguistics and Pedagogy, showed a presentation in Russian on the traditions and culture of China. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Mai from IIME&T presented Vietnam, and Tegu Imanulla, a postgraduate student of the Graduate School of Physics and Materials Technology of IIM&T, made a presentation on Indonesia, in which he told about national dishes, dances, symbols, good luck charms and much more.

The Polytechnic held an interactive competition

Ye Zizhou, a student from the Graduate School of International Relations, performed a traditional Chinese number symbolizing the wisdom of the Green Snake. Mao Yiling from the Graduate School of Linguistics and Pedagogy demonstrated a traditional sword martial art.

Participants of the event

Sofia Kononova from the Graduate School of International Relations recited a poem in Chinese. Students of the Graduate School of Linguistics and Pedagogy performed two Chinese songs: «Gen wo iqi zuo» and «Gongsi ni». Students of the Graduate School of International Relations sang the composition «Perfect Heaven and Earth» in Chinese.

IIM&T graduate students Nguyen Van Tu Anh and Tran Thanh Cong sang a Vietnamese song «Hoa co mua suan», which translates as «Spring Flowers and Grasses», to the guitar.

Traditional sword martial art

A master class on making magic aromatic sachets in national herbal bags was conducted by Li Peiyun from the Graduate School of Linguistics and Pedagogy. The art of Chinese calligraphy was taught by Yuan Fengxia from the Graduate School of Linguistics and Pedagogy. Chinese tea ceremony was demonstrated by Zhang Yuwen and Mao Yiling from the Graduate School of Linguistics and Pedagogy. Xie Zhaoying from the Graduate School of Linguistics and Pedagogy shared the secrets of Chinese knot weaving and paper lanterns making.
